Oct 11 11 11:16 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I share the same feeling as a lot of forum members that the script ruined what could have been a great picture by George Pal. Instead it turned weird very fast when the Captain went nuts. A lot of film time was wasted watching fighting and arguing between some of the crew when they should have been exploring Mars. I just can't believe that Pal wanted it this way and that, as was said earlier in this forum, it was the fault of some untalented Studio heads that demanded it be written this way. Oct 12 11 1:43 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Sorry guys, your both mistaken. I got these images off my DVD copy of "Conquest Of Space" by running my DVD disk through Nero's player. I can stop the movie anyplace I want and execute a screen grab command by pressing C on my keyboard.

I was just a small kid when I first saw it and was very disappointed in how the script was written. I was actually very angry at the Jerk Captain going off his nut the way he did as I was with some of the other crew members for acting as if they were stuck in a cold and drafty cabin dealing with a weak and whinney party member instead of feeling elated over being members of the greatest exploration team in the history of mankind. I just can't believe that Pal wanted it this way and that, as was said earlier in this forum, it was the fault of some stupid and untalented Studio heads that demanded it be written this way. "But a pitcha's gotta have some conflict if ya wanna sell tickets!"

Oct 12 11 7:55 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Anyone remember that in dear Fantastic Monsters #4 (1963), there's a nice George Pal career article written by the late Mike Minor -- Bob Burns buddy, illustrator extraordinaire, & effects designer. As Bob mentions in one of his books, Mike first came to him principally as a Pal freak, so this piece is notably informed by his love & passion for the subject. He gives CONQUEST a proper raking as Pal's first SF failure; the opening spread, though, is illustrated with a Mike-created diorama of the Mars ship against a starfield.

Did he say what Pal thought of "Conquest Of Space"? I guess he had the script yanked out of his hand by some Studio head that thought he new more than Pal did. Also in those days, monster mag articles rarely had anything like the depth & insider gossip we take for granted nowadays. All that said, it was the first serious Pal article, remains tasty & enthusiastic even today. Happily, Mike Minor went on to many great things, even though sad to say he died at an early age.

I would love to read it sometime. It's a rare and extremely talented person who could come over here from war torn Hungary and produce major science fiction hits like "Destination Moon" and "The War Of The Worlds". Pal must have had talent oozing out of every pore in his body. Incidentaly, his given birth name was: György Pál Marczincsák Do you know where there are some good books on him?
