I just watched the first half of 'Phantom Menace', and the dialog is truly atrocious......the tragedy is, the soundscape thru the speakers of this THX movie is breathtaking....I'm only using 80-buck 5.1 computer speakers, but using a graphic equalizer, the results are deeply impressive. The race sequence between dusty dusty hover-vehicles around the one-hour mark is thrilling and entertaining. I have no idea who the main characters are, what their motivation is, or what significance this race has to the story, all I know is this is a great sequence that I enjoy watching repeatedly. The actual dialog in this movie is so off-putting, I haven't got the desire to follow the story. But this movie still manages to entertain me visually. 'the horror..............THE HORROR!' Sep 4 11 7:37 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The prequels are what they are, crappy movies that look pretty. But I have no real problems with the prequels, other than them being pretty bad. It is the tampering with the originals that gets under my skin. The originals have terrible dialogue, the actors were able to pull off the lines in a way that covered up the crappy script. Sep 4 11 8:22 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Carl Eysenheart I agree with you. In the prequels the only one who"got it" was Ian McDiarmid. The original cast in the first two films cared about the characters coming across as real people. By Jedi Ford didn't care at all and wasn't happy with his role and Fisher was coked out of her skull. In the prequels Lucas seemed to just get the pieces of dialogue and movements he needed so he could assemble the film the way he wanted back at the ranch and the films suffer for it. McDiarmid clearly realised you had to just go for it and was a veteran of the originals. It is amazing just how uncomfortable the actors seem in the prequels. For instance the fight between Obi and Annikin in ROTS. It is well choreographed but their is no emotion in it. It should be raw and emotional but you know the actors are just going in their heads 1,2,3 parry and 1,2,3 parry. I actually have no real problems with the stories of the prequels. If they had been acted with passion I don't think people would really be complaining much except for the mind numbingly stupid parts (she's lost the will to live...etc). It seems the actors took on the personality of the director. Shy and unemotional. In the originals the principal actors argued with Lucas. Ford would say "you can write this sh-t but you can't say it". He came up with "I know" in Empire and George absolutely hated it and wanted it re-shot. Kershner fought that. The principal actors questioned things. In the documentaries I've seen of the prequels the actors accept everything George says, as does everyone working on the films. Lucas was second guessed on tons of things in the making of Star Wars and Empire. By Jedi the yes men had taken over and to me that is why things started to go downhill. Lucas is an amazing idea man. Not many people can come up with the things he does. He needs though to be questioned. Gary Kurtz, Kershner, the actors, the effects people would question things that didn't make sense or work. That never happened on the prequels. Now he's still changing the OT. Vader says No twice in Jedi. When will it ever end.

Sep 4 11 5:55 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Can he even re-issue the originals? I've heard he chopped them up for the special editions, and there's no going back. I think that's unlikely... isn't it? I was all set to hold my nose and buy the Blu-Ray (my girlfriend has a player, I currently do not, so I'd only see them at her place anyway) for the deleted scenes (and hopefully, some good making-of documentaries), but if he's changing the originals even more, I'm not going to do it. I'll stick with the original/special edition version DVDs that came out a while back... at least those came with the Marvel Comics adaptations. A perfect Monster has no end...

And they all are based on Bobba Fett? Huh? I guess it's the Empire (Republic), having the long-necked aliens make them to hold off the rebels? Is it as simple as that? Sorry. The second prequel is a muddy mess.

I think the Emperor ordered them made (via Christopher Lee and Jango Fett) ostensibly as an army to fight the Separatists (Dooku and the Trade Federation and General Grievous), knowing all the while that he'd ultimately use the Clones to kill all the Jedi (Order 66 in Revenge of the Sith). It's still not so clear with me, and I say that as someone who's watched those movies probably over 50 times each with my kids as they were growing up. Cool toys, though...

Sep 7 11 12:51 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Oh, wow, I went to Amazon to check out the reviews... most people (out of 800+ so far) have given the new deluxe blu-ray set one star. A few are helpful with lists of exactly what Lucas changed and what's coming in the way of extras, but most reviewers are exactly how I feel... finished with Lucas and Star Wars. Done. Kaput! Some of the changes are truly senseless. I could live with the odd creature in the background of Jabba's palace (they added a "Dug" (Anakin's little nemesis from the pod-race in Phantom Menace)... but adding rocks to R2's hideout/cave from the jawas in Star Wars? To, what, hide him better? Making Jabba's front gate ridiculously larger? Making Ewoks blink? Having Vader scream when he never did before? (All of these changes and more are on the net in video or picture form). I find little changes like this pointless overkill rather than correcting any problems the originals had. A more grievous (but not General) omission I've read from some of the reviews is that the color is off in some effects scenes (lightsabers and laser blasts), and this after Lucasfilm promised they'd spent three years cleaning up the films. On the bright side, one review stated that each film had 6-8 deleted/extended scenes. Some aren't finished, though. Reminds me of the King Kong 05 unfinished deleted scenes. If he'd actually made a great trilogy of prequels, and also set aside a few discs in his box set for the remastered original versions, I don't think people would care nearly as much with what he's doing now with all the revisions. But he didn't. So they do. A perfect Monster has no end...

The alien that made the clones says a jedi master named Sypho Dias (no idea if it is spelled right) put in the order for the clone army. Obi says to the alien this guy has been dead for ten years. He then drops a line to Yoda and Windu and they tell him nope we didn't order the army. Yoda says he is going to the clone planet to look into things. The next time you see Yoda he is leading a massive clone army. Nobody ever mentions who really ordered the army again. So Yoda gets to the clone planet and presumably asks the aliens "who ordered the army we didn't." The Alien says Sypho Dias and Yoda says "that doesn't make sense he has been dead for a long time." They stare awkwardly at each other and the alien says "Sooo...you want em?" Yoda based on the logic/events of the film must have said "Sure...Off your hands I can take them" and loads them onto battleships, walkers etc. Did the aliens also build the ships, walking lasers etc. too? Nobody ever mentions who really ordered the army again. << Boy, that always bugged me from the get go. That's a really big blank hole in your climax. And it's the whole lynchpin of the Jedi downfall, too. Yeesh. It makes almost as little sense as Annakin's reasons for turning to the Dark Side.
