Mummies don't seem to be a popular theme. I wonder if we get enough of the tomb between vampires, zombies, Frankenstein, the Resurrectionists, and the whole confused witch/vampire thing in Viy or Black Sunday. I'm willing to stretch and include anything with an Egyptian (or other) theme, such as mummy curses, or pyramids, with or without scarabs.

I went searching for a list of movies, made up a list of films (and also a reading list), then discarded anything that's primarily about vampires, zombies, Frankenstein, and Resurrectionist; or is softcore, clearly non-genre, way too bad to watch, and most pre-1920 stuff. I've never heard of some of these before today. The non-genre requirement (should) eliminated a lot of mysteries like the 1981 Sphinx, but I'm not sure where to draw the line. I think some adventures should be included, and probably a few mysteries have enough atmosphere. But I do want to find something like a core mummy movie list.

During my hunt I ran into a possible explanation for why mummies get no respect...

One reason why mummy films suffer in comparison to other films of the classic horror genre is that they have, as Kim Newman describes it, no "foundation text". The other famous monsters either have a literary source beginning with Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, and ending with Leroux’s Phantom of the Opera in 1911, or they have a mythical origin such as the vampire or werewolf... Mythology regarding re-animated mummies is also a nineteenth-century invention.
