I had riciculous amounts of fun and fangirl enjoyment at the con., and the magazine is turning out to be just what I need as a monsterkid:)

Feb 6 11 9:15 PM More My Recent Posts	With due respect to Max's suggestion... given the acrimony within and without the FM world, and mitigated reactions among readers, you think maybe you should hold off a couple years before group-canonizing everyone, and maybe see if the magazine is a success first? About 1984, former Forry aide Brian Forbes revived WEIRD TALES, with a combination of new material by Ellison, Stephen King, van Vogt, Arch Oboler, etc. , and reprints from classic horror pulp from the 30s. I was the managing editor, such as it was. Had the same Rondo-style kudos been offered to Brian & Company at the time ('... for reviving a classic title in the grand old tradition, but for modern audiences"... yeah, yeah, yeah, same old same old), it would have been pointless, because he did one more issue before the whole thing fell apart. That was simply the way things happen sometimes. It later was revived again through yet another publisher. Plus, once a "group award" concept is begun, it becomes problematic thereafter. How, after that, do you differentiate between a truly collaborative effort and a one-man-show with a tiny bit of essential help? Do the printers of VIDEO WATCHDOG also need to be mentioned and given an award when Tim and Donna get another annual Rondo? Would it be fair to given an award to Mike Stein for FilmFax and ignore the editors who physically put the manuscripts together? OT: I'd like to nominate Greg Luce, founder and operator of SINISTER CINEMA, for a lifetime of making obscure monster & sci-fi films a lot easier to find. If it wasn't for him and his company, there'd be a lot more guesswork about obscure gems from the 1930s, 40s, 50s and 60s.

Certainly, with any any group effort, that are different sizes in the slices of the responsibility pie. I stand by my suggestion. Yet I should add that there are people who worked the con and on the mag who haven't had enough credit; Dominie Lee and Ed Blair come to mind. I'm sure it was the same with the old Famous Monsters-- folks like Walt Daugherty, Bill Obbagy, Jean Claude Michel, Bill Warren, the cover artists not named Gogos, Joe Moe--they and many more would deserve some recognition if awards were given out then, but we both know that the awards would go to Jim Warren and Forrest J. Ackerman. Everyone can't win even when they deserve kudos. I stand by my suggestion for four "Monster Kids of the Year." I never dreamed FM would come back as an event organizer and a national magazine with a wide array of talent. But it has happened. My opinion is only that--my opinion. Other folks may think it over and agree with me-- or they might not. Certainly in EVERY category there are more people that DESERVE to win than do. (Multiple winners as a possibility is not a bad idea.) But that is not how it works. Anyway, I enjoyed making my suggestion and will enjoy reading others' comments. BTW, Greg Luce does not deserve a vote as "Monster Kid of the Year"-- he deserves a place in the "Monster Kid Hall of Fame"!
