Jan 19 11 8:32 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	LA JETEE is my #1--once I saw it, it became part of my interior life, as few films do--but close #2 is 12:01, which was later made into a feature. I haven't seen the feature because I hear it changes the ending, which is the best part of the short--it's flippin' nightmarish.

It was later remade as Left Turn. Saw both on YouTube in the past I think. I prefer the original because it was low key eerie and played on your imagination in the final scene, whereas the remake goes for more obvious horror. See it at: http://youtu.be/5mPxaPTX-_8 For curiosity value, I just saw the four part Minikillers (1969) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0456057/ starring Diana Rigg on the recently released R2 complete series boxset of The Avengers. It's four ten minute films without any dialogue. Pretty much in the spy genre but weird and surreal in a way that Euro horror fans may appreciate (and the Telly Savalas lookalike may make you think of Lisa And The Devil), with store mannequins showing up in one story and little minikiller dolls being used to squirt poison in eyes of victims or else explode by remote control. It does seem fairly obscure (probably not surprising for a short film) and I was glad to find out more about it after all those years. I'm happy to have turned at least one more viewer onto it for themselves. Another short film that made an impression on me in childhood was Black Angel (1979), which was shown along with The Empire Strikes Back. May 23 11 6:22 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	A supremely dark, disturbing and fascinating short film is Charlie Deaux's ZOETROPE (1999), which is loosely based on Kafka's "The Penal Colony". It has been described as, "...an impeccable, nightmarish vision of a man crushed and destroyed by the mechanistic devices of science, politics and bureaucracy." I originally heard about it through my interest in the music of Brian Williams as Lustmord, who created the sound design. I found it fascinating, although it has been criticized for being a superficial treatment of Kafka's book, beautiful, but lacking in content. I would recommend it for those with a taste for darker artistic content.

I loved this short film and transfered it to video. I always wondered who made it. Well recently, I finally put it all together. This film was made by Mark Sullivan while I believe he was still attending Columbus College of Art and Design. Mark went on to become one of the best matte painters in Hollywood. I recently emailed Mark and told him that others need to see this film. He gave me permission to post this on You Tube. More about Mark's accomplishments follow. Mark's website: www.digitalmatte.com

Perfect encapsulation of everything i love about that gritty 70's low budget film making style merged with the urban legends of my youth that could give you a troublesome nights sleep.
