The great thing about it is that it's free to the public. I'll be on a panel with George Lydecker and Jan Henderson talking about the Lydecker Brothers and their incredible special effects. I'll be taking the Flying Sub that the brothers used in the flying scenes for the VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA TV series and tell how it was used. Our talk will be at 4:00 pm. The last panel for the day. It's going to be a one of a kind event. <

Sep 21 10 3:49 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I am the publicist for the Republic Pictures 75th anniversary and I am also a huge Bob Burns fan- I can't wait to meet him at the event. I grew up reading Famous Monsters and I was 100% giddy to meet Forry Ackerman years ago. It is so great to be part of this huge celebration and the best part is it is free!! Bring your families. We are going to be giving a collectable booklet when you first enter- they will go fast! Plenty of celebrity panels, we are screening Zorro's Fighting Legions, The Night Riders, The Adventures of Captain Marvel (Final Episode), The Last Bandit, and The Perils of Nyoka, there will be a memorbilia/autograph room, there will be lots of food- I am hungry just typing this!, live music, and a lot more! What makes this event special is that it takes place on the actual Republic Pictures backlot which is now the CBS Radford lot. I want to see all of you monster fans there because most people think this is a western event and THAT IS NOT TRUE this is a Republic Pictures event! We originally planned on releasing different posters and artwork every month. The poster posted by Rakshasa was the original concept. The follow up was going to be a Lydecker minature with a sci-fi theme (name sci-fi coined by Forry Ackerman). but we ran out of money and CBS has a cap on the budget. Oct 3 10 2:04 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Well... I took the pilgrimage. Imagine a typical sci-fi autograph show/con. Now put everybody outside. Now take that and spread it daintly over approximately the distance of five city blocks. Add in 110 degree heat, all day, with not a cloud in the sky. The one autograph/celebrity room at least had air conditioning; I hear-tell the screenings were air condidtioned, too; there were a couple of live bands singing C & W songs, outside in the heat; if you wanted to have a real, live burger in the gen-you-wine former Republic commissary, you got the additional privelege of standing in a queue outside with your melted tennis shoes fusing with the asphalt for about a half-hour. The weather was very unfortunate. I went down specifically to see Bob Burns and Jan Henderson, but they did not seem to be around at 1-2pm. There were a lot of second- and third-generation "celebrities" signing stuff, like Roy Rogers' great-great grand-niece twice removed, and Chuck Connors' son (no, not Johnny Crawford; Chuck Connors Jr., or Morry Crawford, or Eddie Crawford or something. But in his favor, he WAS wearing a cowboy hat.) I did see some pals-- Bill Cunningham, Courtney Joyner, Steve Latshaw-- and in general, the event was well-attended, with a surprising amoung of young-'uns. I'm not sure what they made of it, though.
