Morgus The Magnificent - Hall of Fame
|
I want to nominate Morgus the Magnificent for the Hall of Fame. This is Morgus' 50th annoversary as a horror host - 50 YEARS! Amazing! Actor Sid Noel has
portrayed the Mad Scientist in the New Orleans area all these years, and it would be perfect for him to be given a Rondo this year. He is also alive and well
and hopefully could come pick up the award in person at the Louisville award ceremonies at Wonderfest.
Morgus the Magnificent for Hall of Fame. http://www.morgus.com/ this is from his website: On January 3rd, 1959, the cameras first went on in the Old City Ice House, looking in on a young Momus Alexander Morgus as he toiled with his assistants, Chopsley and ERIC, on experiments designed to benefit mankind and make the world a better place in which to live. Since that humble beginning, the Doctor has been on and off the air several times for various reasons, but he's always
rebounded, ready to lead the way for a skeptical scientific community destined to follow in his footsteps. Several generations of Students of
Science have grown up under his tutelage, and can be found in all walks of life, citing his influence and inspiration.

Jack Pierce - Hall of Fame

I'd like to nominate Jack Pierce to the Hall of Fame.... Would we even be here without him?

With vast respect, Rob, I don't think Jack Pierce fits the criteria for Hall Of Fame, at least as I understand it. He IS deserving of a star on the
Hollywood Walk Of Fame and should have received an Oscar. But the Rondo Hall Of Fame is more about people who contributed to fandom. This is why people like
Rod Serling or Bela Lugosi haven't been inducted. Yes, they were fantastic talents and we were all inspired by their work, but they don't have a direct
"Monster Kid" connection.
Gary, am I correct here? Frank Dietz

Nominated before, and exceptionally deserving, so here they are again: William M. Gaines and Al Feldstein.

Hall of Fame -- Wally Wood
|
I would nominate the late, great Wally Wood -- not just for his mind-boggling comics and illustration legacy, but for publishing WITZEND, a seminal chapter in
the history of independent fan publishing.

Dr Acula |
For Hall of Fame: Stephen R. Bissette
|
For the Hall of Fame:
Stephen R. Bissette: For all his great mainstream horror comics (Swamp Thing) as well as self-published horrific works (Taboo and Tyrant), in both cases quite notable for spawning great work (From Hell and Throat Sprockets, anyone?) For his work chronicling Vermont-area filmmaking in Green Mountain Cinema For being one of horror fandoms best spoken horror creators and horror enthusiasts.
"I am an excitable person who only understands life lyrically, musically, in whom feelings are much stronger as reason. I am so thirsty for the marvelous
that only the marvelous has power over me. Anything I cannot transform into something marvelous, I let go. Reality doesn't impress me. I only believe in
intoxication, in ecstasy, and when ordinary life shackles me, I escape, one way or another. No more walls." - Anaïs Nin

For Best Film 2009: Coraline

The title sez it all - it's a great film, maybe the best kid's dark fantasy film since the Halloween Tree.

Hall of Fame | ||

I would like to nominate Joe Bob Briggs once again for the Rondo Hall of Fame. He's a nationally known personality who kept the Drive In aesthetic alive
for so long both with his entertaining and informative reviews and essays and as a television host for many years on The Movie Channel and TNT.
"My revenge has spread over centuries, and has just begun!"

reddog122 wrote:People tend to think of Joe Bob's comedy redneck persona, but his last few books are written out of character and show a deep knowledge and understanding of the history of exploitation cinema. His DVD commentaries are always worthwhile, mixing humor with serious appreciation of the films and filmmakers.

That sculpture alone is worthy of an Artist Of The Year Rondo. Mike's work is perfect.

"Bela Lugosi And The House of Doom" for Best Book of 2009
|
I would like to nominate "Bela Lugosi And The House of Doom" for Best Book of 2009. Dwight Kemper has taken characters we all know and love and has
woven a wonderful comedy mystery story set during the filming of A&C Meet Frankenstein. If you haven't read it yet give it a try...you won't regret
it!
Best, Jazzman |

Hall of Fame - Peter Jackson
|
I was rewatching Dead Alive today, and came across the scene with Forrey Ackerman in it - sitting on a park bench, reading a Scary Monsters Magazine. When the
mother is bitten by the rat monkey, he turns to gape and you see a quick clear shot of the Dracula ring - priceless. Peter is a true monster-kid, and he even
made sure to fly Bob and Kathy Burns out for a cameo in his King Kong remake. Awesome. Peter Jackson for the Hall of Fame

I'll second that nomination for Peter Jackson. He is a major league Monster Kid.

Uh, I wrote Forrey was reading a Scary Monsters - lol - It was actually Famous Monsters (#1, to be exact) - which makes sense, of course, but I'm sure
Dennis would love it if he had been read SM.

I'd go thirdsies on Peter Jackson. David, did you ever hear from Peter when he won any of the below mentioned Rondos?

I thought this family adventure was a great homage with heart to the classic horror sci-fi of the 1950's! Lost of details show the filmmakers did their
homework!

Even if it wasn't one of our own books, I would still second
the nomination for such a Monster Kid Friendly book that all classic horror buffs would enjoy! BELA LUGOSI AND THE HOUSE OF DOOM!
