This appears to be sort of like one of the Rhino/Crown Horrible Horrors sets that came out a few years, give or take a few titles. I'd love to know if the new transfers (in OAR) of BLOOD OF DRACULA'S CASTLE and NIGHTMARE IN WAX that were supposed to come out on a double feature disc will be on this set, or if it will be the same Rhino full-frame transfers (which were, to be fair, a million times better than previous video releases).

(07/03/09 12:47 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	I don't think we know yet which prints are being used for the transfers of NIGHTMARE IN WAX and BLOOD OF DRACULA'S CASTLE. Even former BCI honcho Cliff MacMillan isn't sure. Most of us are hoping that the BCI widescreen masters will be used.

I already have the BCI 8 or 10 movie set that was released last year. I also have the Rhino Nightmare In Wax/Blood Of Dracula's Castle as well. If those two are in widescreen then maybe I'll rent them just to see what they look like. But the endless repackaging of previously released titles is wearing a bit thin on me at this point. "Some days its not worth the effort of chewing through the restraints".

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a new transfer of NIGHTMARE and BODC, but who knows. I'm glad Cliff was able to get the stuff out that he did while at BCI. I wonder what this means for the Code Red/BCI discs that have been coming out? There are a few more up for pre-order on Amazon.

They bought the films from BCI when BCI folded. They can't be upset, BCI no longer is in business -- in fact Navarre (parent co.) is probably happy to have made a little bit of money by selling the titles off to Mill Creek The sky is blue because of the way the light waves refract in our atmosphere and how our eyes see the light. (08/26/09 9:18 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	I'm heading out, but I just spot-checked the beginning of those two films. Both are letterboxed, but DRACULA'S CASTLE is covered with large green print scratches--like the first half of GRINDHOUSE, and reminiscent of Something Weird's early VHS transfers from damaged prints. NIGHTMARE IN WAX doesn't seem to have the print scratches, but is rather fuzzy. I'd be surprised to have seen these prints from BCI, given their nice looking DRIVE-IN CULT CLASSICS series, but who knows. The outer packaging is really shoddy, one of the worst DVD outer cases that I've ever seen. The outer plastic sleeve that holds the cover art wraparound can easily be torn off if you're not careful with the white "security label" along the top. The three discs inside are "boxed in" with stuffing rather than secured. Shoddy packaging seems to be a new bugaboo, with the stacking of the three TOHO SCI-FI discs in Sony's set, and those new amaray outer cases that have the "holes" in them. So much for preservation. I'll need to watch NIGHTMARE and DRACULA'S CASTLE in their entirety, but my first glance is quite a negative one. Gotta run! Last Edited By: Jobla 08/27/09 9:56 AM. Edited 1 times.

(08/28/09 12:54 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	I watched BLOOD OF DRACULA'S CASTLE in its entirety tonight. The print is definitely watchable, and the worst debris seems to come at the beginning of each reel. However, those who hate print scratches, occasional choppiness and periodic discoloration might give it a pass. The letterboxing looks more like 1:66-1 to me than 1:78-1 or1:85-1. I hadn't seen the film since about 1971, so I'm not intimately familiar with it. There's one really ackward moment when the vampire couple are about to confront their "guests." Just before they enter the main room, we suddenly see one of the chained women in the basement for about two seconds, and then suddenly D'Arcy and Raymond enter the main room upstairs. I can't say if that "jump cut" was present in the original theatrical version I saw back in 1971, or not. But, it is pretty jarring.
