Wow. What a rough week to be a celebrity. They seem to be dropping like flies.
So long Little Margie. Cromwell |

What a terrible week. I'm sad to hear of Gale Storm's passing. She was big part of my early childhood TV memories. The quintessential 50's
clean-cut teenage girl.

Strangely, I was just watching about an hour ago a new CD I recently got of a 1949 western named STAMPEDE which starred Rod Cameron and Gale Storm. I remember
Gale Storm rather vividly from MY LITTLE MARGIE, but haven't seen her in anything in years until earlier today.
A very likable performer and comedienne who I remember playing a young woman when I was young. This makes me feel very old. I am happy she enjoyed a long and full life. |

So few people knew who Gale Storm was here at work -- a newspaper, no less! -- that it made me feel very very old.

I always liked her and her series, OH! SUSANNAH/THE GALE STORM SHOW more than MY LITTLE MARGIE. She's one of those people like Gary
Moore who, once their shows were off the air, vanished and faded quickly out of the public consciousness.

I grew up with MY LITTLE MARGIE and went for her in a big way. She also co-starred with John Carradine in REVENGE OF THE ZOMBIES. Sorry to learn of her
passing.

Several years ago, I phoned her and invited her to a screening of ABANDONED (1949). She was sharp as hell, but declined due to physical issues that prevented
her from doing any more public appearances. We had a nice chat about Joe Newman, Mike Mazurki and Dennis O'Keefe, etc. She really enjoyed both
ABANDONED-her favorite movie that she appeared in- and BETWEEN MIDNIGHT and DAWN. I distinctly remember her remarking, "I am so glad you didn't call
to ask about REVENGE OF THE ZOMBIES! I believe Tom Weaver spoke with her recently. She was a very nice person who will be missed by family, friends and fans.

I thought My Little Margie was FUNNIER than I Love Lucy, especially when Mrs. Odetts was on.

Whenever I think of Gale Storm and My Little Margie, I remember Robert Klein's brilliant take on the show where he did all the voices and possibly even the
music. Spot on, Mr Klein... and quite the tribute on it's own.
RIP, Ms Storm. Thanks for making me laugh every week. Those shows will live forever. D'Entre les Morts,

The apartment she and her father,Vern Albright,
lived in in NYCwould, today, rent for about $12 to $15k @ month, though in those days, say $1.2K to $1.5K. [There were no condos or co-ops then.] Mrs. Odets
must have lived in a studio or was under low ballrent control.

Wasn't she the queen of Monogram in the 40s? Maybe, she'd rather be remembered for her TV work in the 50s.
I seem to remember her saying that she won the name "Gale Storm" in a contest. |

Doc Dynamo wrote:She did. Not only that, she won the other prize winner. She married the guy who won the same contest; they stayed married for years, until he died. |

Dang!! I've had a crush on Gale Storm since I was 5 or whenever I saw My Little Margie for the first time. Shocked to see she was 87 but I guess I
shouldn't be. I've managed to pick up several DVD's of Margie episodes but the Oh! Susanna! series is almost impossible to find.

After posting the above I decided to search again and to my delight there's a 24 episode set available on E Bay. For the longest time all I could find was
a series that only had two episodes per disc.

I liked both series but O Sussana had the delightful Zazu Pitts and shes always been a favorite.
My Little Margies out on 3 episode DVDS in Canada at Dollerama , and I think that the shows are still good with the humor more warm hearted than todays. What a shame theres not a 50s TV Station, but i guess theres not enough nostalgic geezers. RIP Ms Storm, you are better than any of todays crowd. |

I called her a couple months ago to ask if I could interview her about REVENGE OF THE ZOMBIES and she said she couldn't help me because she remembered
absolutely nothing whatsoever about the making of it. I told her it had been on TCM a few days earlier and I'd recorded a perfect copy, and that I wanted
to send it to her -- maybe it would jog her memory. She said, "Dear, I WATCHED it on TCM the other day. That's how I KNOW that I remember absolutely
nothing!" She sounded very nice and very sweet and -- after starting out by saying she didn't give interviews any more -- ended up by saying that she
wished she had remembered something and could have given me an interview!
One of her OH SUSANNA (sp?) episodes found her visiting the Hal Roach Studios and getting onto the set of THE VEIL; Boris Karloff played a dual role in the episode (himself and a rifle-wielding madman). |

John Archer (BOWERY AT MIDNIGHT, DESTINATION MOON, etc.) won HIS screen name ("John Archer") on that same contest radio show.
