Man, I wish I could be there. I really miss Monster Bash, but I've already been to Wonderfest and Monsterpalooza and I'll be going to San Diego in a
few weeks. I couldn't afford another trip. I hope everyone there has a great time. Looking forward to the reports and pictures.

Looking forward to the Bash again this year, and seeing everybody who can make it. Last year was a blast.
I'll be showing some new paintings and cartoons this year, a first for me, and I'm a little nervous as I've never shown any stuff in public before this past January, at a Poe Bicentennial event. They seemed to go over well, so I thought I'd take some work up to the Bash. I'll be in the room off the main corridor (not the dealers room) with Ron Chaney. On Saturday, Bill Maynard will be with us with copies of his new Fu Manchu novel THE TERROR OF FU MANCHU. Come by and say hello! Otherwise, save me a seat at the bar! Looking forward to catching up with folks. Mark Redfield

Didn't know you were an artist, as well! (You've been holding out, mon ami.) Mark Redfield really is a Renaissance Man! |

Looks like I'll be renting a car, after my flight gets in Thursday morning at 9:40. If anyone else is flying in around that same time, they could ride with
me. If you're interested, send me a message to my inbox.

I love that Poe shot!!! That would look great on a black t-shirt or coffee mug. (Seriously! Either through Redfield Arts, or possibly make them available at
Poe events....)

Is Lou Ferrigno still going to be there? Apparently he was training Michael Jackson to be in shape for the European tour.

We're here in Butler, PA at the Monster Bash, typing this into my iPhone at a standing-room only talk by SON OF FRANKENSTEIN's Donnie Dunagan. He has
the crowd mesmerized with his stories of being on the set with Botis Karloff.
We've seen Mark Redfield, Jennifer Rouse, Tom Weaver, John Clymer, Jim and Marian Clatterbaugh, Dennis and Dylan Druktenis, Buddy Barnett, Elizabeth Haney, Jeff Barnes, Robert Taylor and Cousin Sara, the Patient Creatures, Lorraine Bush, Rick and Amber Stoner, Steve Kronenberg, Cortlandt Hull, Penny Dreadful and Garou, Ron Chaney, GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN's Janet Gallow, Lou Ferrigno, Chris Costrllo, Ricou Browning, Max Cheney (Room 115!), Jane Considine, Harry Woodbury, Ghoul a Go Go, John-Paul Checkett, Arlene Dumkowski, Len Kohl, Steve Thornton, Son of Ghoul and ... you know, Monster Bash!

Ohh -- ask him if it was Bud Wolfe or George DeNormand doubling the Monster Have a ball, everybody. Thanks for thinking of us, David. |

Saturday night was fun, highlighted by the WORLD premiere of Max the Severed Head's video -- including a wild robot-gone-amok scene -- an illusionist
and a room full of people worthy of The Old Dark Clubhouse.
I was also interviewed on video by J. Michael Roddy, who is preparing a documentary on 'Monster Kids,' and who laughed when I told him my love of
monsters was born when I saw KING KONG on Million Dollar Movie in New York. It seems three or four of his intervewees have said the same thing!

As his father carried him up to bed after one of these tearful collapses, he asked Mark why, if the movie upset him so much, did he keep watching it? Mark said "Because I keep thinking he'll WIN." |

Some convention highlights using a crappy cell phone camera | ||
|
I had a great time at the convention. Here are some highlights:
Junior and the Mrs. have a spat.
The Count tries to put the bite on me.
Ron Chaney acting a little lopey.
The Monsters want a little snack.
Heeeeeey, Abbott!
"So tell me, what was Mary Shelley REALLY like?" Best part of the whole convention... having folks treating me like a celebrity. Some even had House of Doom with them hoping I might be there to sign it! One lady came to the convention hoping to buy my books and was disappointed when the dealers didn't have any! But thanks to her visit to our own Drunken Severed Head, she hooked up with me and got her books! What a weekend! Also made friends with Donnie Dunagan, a really swell guy, and had my meeting the Chris Costello to discuess next year's murder mystery cruise to Bermuda. I chatted a while with Mark Redfield and his paintings look even better in person. Had lunch with fellow author Gordon B. (Boris Karloff, The Man Remembered) Shriver and we traded publishing war stories. And got to see Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein on the big screen with REAL BATS flying overhead. I also chatted with the Incredible Hulk and the Creature from the Black Lagoon. You can't get a better Monster Bash experience than that! Best six hour drive I ever took. Best, DK

Nice, Detective -- thanx for sharing!
Those A&C actors/monsters could be clones. (I wonder what Tim Burton's doing after DARK SHADOWS.....) |

Ron Chamberlain's creations this year were better than ever, especially his 'Monster.'
I SHOULD know this, but don't. Where does Ron Chamberlain ply his makeup magic in real -- or 'reel' -- life? |

I think I spent more time at this year's Bash just hanging out with people than every before. It was great to see (or finally meet) David Colton, Tom
Weaver, Jim and Marian Clatterbaugh, Gordon Shriver and... Oh hell, it was great to see everyone.
