Cinema Bill wrote: This is one thread I'm sorry I viewed. It seems like you all drank a big bottle of "to hell with everyone" juice, then thought of an actor and hacked him (or her ) up. Even poor old Porter "Freaken" Hall for Pete's sake.
Oh fer goshsakes, C.B. -- 99% of my comments in this thread have been vain attempts to DEFEND actors other people put down, and you hafta kick my ass for one of the very few semi-negative things I had to say about somebody. And at that, all I really said was: "there are some I love much more than others, and a few that just don't fit my pistol, even though I occasionally see them do something I like: BARTON MACLANE, GENE LOCKHART and PORTER HALL are among the guys I can't seem to warm to." And even THEN I went out of my way to mention a film I DID like Porter in! I was only trying to get into the spirit of the discussions here, and not look like too much of a wet blanket and Goody Two Shoes... but I catch your drift (I think) and if so, I agree with you: I much prefer to think and talk about the stuff I LIKE and not waste a lot of time wallowing in negativity. Life's too short. Incidentally, I'd like to talk to you about the "Sabastian" (sp?) TV horror host you mentioned in another thread, so I can add him to my website.

Ba56 wrote: I liked Paul Muni in SCARFACE. His acting style was ALL style; he really threw himself into the role, but never disappeared. He did oodles of research for parts, apparently, and his acting background was in Yiddish theatre and Broadway, so it was certainly stylized: I always felt that was Muni, acting, but what a performance. He was so physical, I actually found myself thinking he'd learned from Karloff, and that he'd have made an interesting monster in a Frankenstein movie. (Warner's, though, so no dice.) Sorry, just had to vent. All these other bums in this thread deserve their spots, of course
