Here's the wrap up of Friday night's show, which was attended by four adults, three teenagers, and one pre-teener. "Flowers and Trees": Not exactly a laugh-fest, but the gang appreciated the gorgeous Technicolor. It's a beautiful cartoon, very weird, with love-making trees. Thankfully not Bird's-foot Trefoils, of course. "Pardon My Scotch": For the very first time, we showed a Three Stooges short that the men laughed hard at while the women never chuckled once. It's one of their better shorts, too. "Are you from Loch Lomond?" Curly: "No, we're from Lock Jaw!" Educational short: "What About School Spirit?" Some of us loved this, but it got at least one thumb's down. A kid sick in the hospital roots his school and its basketball team on, and then dies. Does school spirit die with him? What do YOU think? No, that's how it ends... it asked us what we think. "The Fireman of the Folies-Bergere": Stunned silence from the crowd at this bizarre French short. Best moment: the fireman sits next to a parson on a bus, and the parson turns into a naked woman holding the Bible over her southern naughty bits. "Buddy Holly" by Weezer, recommended by Balconeer Stony... Good cherce! A very good video of a fine song, on the set of Happy Days, with Al Molinaro (sp?) appearing and the rest of the cast there via stock footage, a la Zelig. Good stuff. Thanks, Stony! "Curse of the Scorpion", the first episode of "The Adventures of Captain Marvel" The gang loved it, and 11-year-old Hairball Gravy wisely said when it was over, "This is the best serial we've seen since Spy Smasher!" I love that kid. I was struck again, alas, by how pedestrian the DVD from Lions Gate is. Oh, by the way, the "simulcast live" was me with a microphone making smart ass comments between films. Always popular. This week's show is previewed now at www.inthebalcony.com/FNF.

Yes, with the Monster Kid meetings moving to other climes it is truly the end of an era. And, if you read the blog, you'll also see that it's the end
of an earache.

Just what is the scoop? Where are the Monster Kid meetings moving to? I was under the impression that the meetings were just going to move to another MK's
house other than Arch's (not that he has said anything particularly revealing about what's going on).
I really enjoy reading the weekly run-downs...are they going to continue in some other guise? |

John T Chance wrote: We're running behind on the Monster Kid reports (obviously), but in the last one that will run in the next few days I mention more on what's going on. The meetings will bounce back and forth between the homes of Kezilla and FXRH, and I will still be writing up the reports for the ones I'm able to attend. Kez lives in a suburb north of Dallas, while FXRH lives in south Fort Worth. It's about an hour drive between the two. Kez's place will be convenient for Oldmanster and The Kid, while FXRH's will be good for me, Ryan and Count Gamula. Both locations are about the same driving distance for TV's Steve. There's also the possibility that Ryan will host some meetings. Both FXRH and Ryan have big screen Optoma setups, and Kez is working on it. Right now, he has a 42" plasma screen. Tonight's meeting will be at FXRH's place and we will have a very special guest -- two-time Emmy Award winner Ernie Farino (for the visual effects on the two DUNE mini-series events on the Sci-Fi Channel). Expect lots of photos. |

My "end of an era" remark is in reference specifically to the meetings not being held at Arch's house. That's the longtime tradition and it
was going on informally for quite some time even before it developed into the Monster Kid get togethers. After we've done it enough times I'm sure
we'll find it hard to contemplate anything other than a floating Monster Kid meeting.

END OF AN ERA! | ||

This is it! The last Monster Kid meeting hosted by Arch Stanton! The Fat Lady is singing!
We sing the praises of Dr. No on Blu-Ray! Count Gamula sings the praises of Demi Moore's butt! Monsters We've Known and Loved brings a song to our hearts! Johnny Depp sings as he slashes a few throats! So bring your ear plugs and visit the Blog from the Monsterverse to share in this bittersweet moment in time. Kez |

Not to mention that there's a couple of Halloween movie suggestions -- one traditional, the other not so traditional -- over at the Monsterverse.

I am having my annual Halloween Party tomorrow night. Which is basically an excuse to watch movies and eat junk food. Anyway I have my lineup finalized for
this year and I sent the emails to friends and family letting them know. So I thought I post my lineup here so you all could see.
4:00 pm ---- The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957) 5:30 pm ----- The Picture Of Dorian Gray (1945) 7:30 pm ---- Spider Baby (1968) 9:00 pm ---- The Mummy (1932) 10:30 pm --- Night Walker (1964) 12:00 am --- Fright (1972) 1:30 am --- The Blob (1958) 3:00 am --- Last Man On Earth (1964) various shorts will air in between some of the films. I am looking forward to it. No work tomorrow, family, friends and junk food.

I'm shocked that no one has even ventured a guess for the puzzle presented in the last Monster Kid report at http://monsterverse.com/blog/?p=1120#more-1120
Anyway, the answer will appear tomorrow in Part 2 of the report... |

I had a Movie Night recently where I watched THE CREEPING TERROR (1964) for the first time - it was just awful. And I don't mean this in a "so bad
it's good" way. The slithering rug monster has got to be one of the worst, and this poorly-lit film was just too boring to enjoy. There were many
funny lines, but even that couldn't make me have fun.
We also watched two Three Stooges shorts -- CRASH GOES THE HASH and IDIOTS DELUXE, which somewhat saved the evening. This was a rather modest Movie Night, and I hope to have more. Marriage for one regular guy, new late job hours for another, and a guy who is very picky about which films he comes over to see have kind of slowed things down lately.
