Yes, at 57th and Lexington. There were some advantages though. In the morning (before the disco music had to start) we could play whatever music we wanted. Each of the employees took turns. You should have seen the reactions when I would play albums by Dean Martin, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Louis Prima and other fine artists not in vogue at that time. |

For the last 24 years I've been employed as a graphic designer for a very large environmental planning/restoration company. I am also a former Orange County CA Sheriff's Deputy and high school football coach. I'm very happy in my line of work and have been for a long time. I come and go as I please for the most part, and the job is definitely low stress and I'll stay with this company as long as they'll let me. |

When my parents died, I inherited one-sixth of the big old family house, and I bought-out my five long-moved-out brothers and sister in order to 100-percent
own it. I rent out half of it. Between the rent money, and writing for magazines, and proofreading OTHER people's manuscripts for a couple publishers, and
all the other writing-related odds'n'ends that come along, I haven't had to have a 9-5 since the late 1980s.

You never know, though! If anyone wants a sampling as to what life on the road in the 70's with a disco band was like - I've been blogging about. http://pobuck.blogspot.com/2008/05/disco-inferno-my-life-in-music-disco.html Put on those boogie shoes! I am a tattoo artist (yes, one of those guys that permanently disfigures women according to many on the board) and also draw album covers,t shirt designs etc
etc.As far as tattooing goes,i have to manage to get there by noon, hang out with people i actually like all day, listen to the most abrasive music i like, eat
whenever i need to, get days off with ease and besides getting paid to draw all day, the best part is the policy that the customer is NOT always right...they
are usually very very wrong and will be informed as such if they are. If they are rude and course, you don't have to deal with them at all. The owner
doesn't suffer fools and if someone complains or is aggressive, you don't have to apologize and grovel like many retail jobs love to try to get you to
do.

I wish I could invite all of you to my classroom on the days when I teach writing skills such as sequencing by using some of the old Republic Serials. They really love the "cliffhangers" ! For the most part I use "King Of The Rocketmen" but this year I tried "The Crimson Ghost" ! They really got into the detection aspect of trying to figure out who the man behind the mask really was ! I get a greater thrill watching them get "manipulated" by some of the "cheats" than by watching the actual serials themselves. |

Well…I usually hesitate to tell others what I do to earn a living--but as we all share a similar interest I figure I'm amongst friends so
I'll confess…I'm a musician (guitarist/vocalist). Before that I worked various retail jobs and while I've been complimented on being able to
diffuse difficult situations with unruly customers--I had enough of being barked at and decided (as unrealistic and corny as it sounds) to follow my dreams. My
friends and family thought I was insane for making such a decision but I stuck to my guns and I'm glad I did.
For the past five years I've stayed busy gigging in small clubs and giving private guitar lessons. It's not a profitable profession but it has so far been the most rewarding. Learning an instrument can be a daunting task as it requires so many hours of practice and discipline. For the students that find their niche playing music it makes me proud to know that I played a small part in helping them (it's given me a new respect for teachers too). As far as performing goes it also does me well to provide a service that takes folks away from their financial woes and burdens--if only for a brief moment. It's also introduced me to many great people, many of whom I now consider close friends (other musicians and fans of the band alike). As of late I've been taking on side jobs and taking a break from music to improve my technique (to be a more well rounded teacher), form a new and improved band, write more songs, increase my vocal abilities, etc. I've also been working on a book with the intention of providing music theory in laymen's terms (as opposed to the rocket-science type jargon that music professors spew). But I have no intentions of giving up music as it's one of the few things I'm knowledgeable enough to make money doing. I'm not rich or famous--don't ever plan to be--but I can say that when I'm playing music I'm 100% content and most important of all…I'm HAPPY!
