Should I purchase the $10 version of Boggy Creek by Cheezy Flicks from CD Universe.
Or the $25 version by Hen's Tooth from Creepy Classics?
As you can see I could save a lot of money if they're both the same.

I've tried the search button but I have no luck ever with that so forgive me if this has been discussed.

From what I've read and seen myself, I think the Henstooth version is the way to go. I recall NetFlix having a copy of this one if I'm not mistake. The
video was more like a laser disc in quality than a DVD. Considering it's over thirty years old and the fact that it was probably shot using 16mm film,
it's the best you're going to find right now. Imagine if Criterion took a stab at this.
Two guys over at Rue Morgue posted some screens of their versions. The one from Sterling Entertainment had the better flesh tones of the two so that may be something to consider when you make the purchase. Go on over and check it out: http://www.rue-morgue.com/boards/showthread.php?t=20853

There's a ws/2.35:1 version circulating lately... Rough stuff, but interesting to see.

It was shot in Technicscope on a 35mm negative.

There is a version from Cheezy Flicks Ent. that was released May of this year. I wonder how good that one is?

Good to know because Alpha is bad enough.

I just got confirmation from this guy lavaplains who said he bought all the editions of Boggy Creek. Here's what he sent me so I hope this will make future
purchases of Boggy easier for you:
"I own all DVD versions of this film and can help you out here: 1) The Cheezy Flicks, Sterling and Unicorn versions are identical, all taken from the same pan and scan print as the Henstooth version, but mishandled in the DVD mastering. The Sterling and Unicorn versions are OOP. And while the Cheezy Flicks version is DVD-R, all others were real DVD-Video. 2) The now OOP Henstooth version was the best overall copy. The picture could have used a bit more contrast and a widescreen presentation, but it is still fairly good. 3) The version you may want to have as a back-up is the "unknown studio, yellow-boxed collector's edition". It is in anamorphic widescreen, but has been cropped from 2.35 (scope) to 1.85 (16x9). The copy quality is dreadful, both picture and sound, but it was the ONLY widescreen version available. It is now also OOP. Hope that helps! " Clearly, the man is devoted. What more can be said. |
