Jul 29 08 4:12 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	HOMICIDAL & STRAIGHTJACKET scared me SO much at 10 years old that I swore off all "psychopathic killer" movies for several years. Until I finally relented & watched PSYCHO at 14 or so. I'll never forget staying up for the weekly Fright Night Late Show & expecting the usual pleasant thrills & chills of it's usual fare that week, only to be traumatized by that bloody murder of the Justice of the Peace during the wedding scene. It's definitely one of those indelible moments in my life that comes back with crystal clarity when I think about it. Despite my horror at seeing that brutal knife attack played out onscreen ( to this day, I still find the sight of blood in a B&W film far more shocking & disturbing than even the most copious amounts in color! ), I sat through the entire movie. Even though I was petrified by it. And, unable to sleep for the better part of a week afterwards. Only to be confronted by the horror of Joan Crawford in STRAIGHTJACKET the following week! Which, when combined with my having seen HOMICIDAL & HUSH, HUSH SWEET CHARLOTTE on the Sunday Night Movie some weeks earlier, convinced me that some evil, insane woman with an axe or a butcher's knife was bound to come looking for me in the middle of the night some night! LOL

Aug 24 08 11:02 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	My brother and I saw the last minutes of the film previously, when the option to leave and "go to coward corner", we were refunded our ticket price. This was a small neighborhood theater, we were proud of our actions, the ticket price in 1961 was a buck, I think.

Mar 14 10 10:32 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	In grade school back in the 60's, I bought Robb White's novel Secret Sea through the Scholastic book sale program. It was only as an adult that I connected THAT Robb White with the Robb White who wrote the William Castle films. The two Robb Whites have little in common. White's books were rich in detail and knowledge whereas his William Castle scripts are extremely stark and stripped down, not to mention often downright dumb-headed (but that might have been Castle). And going back to the first post, there are few of us who can forget the Justice of the Peace getting gutted in the opening of HOMICIDAL. It's an indelible image. Mar 16 10 1:40 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I think, during that stabbing, it's great to see just how long the guy getting stabbed just sat there and took it - I think after the first stab, I would have moved away, but instead it's as if he just seemed bound and determined to "weather the storm" and see if he could take 10 stabs to the guts.

What made this scene so shocking for me was, here was old Justice O' Peace all happy, anticipating a kiss from the bride...he leans over, and she guts him like a deer! His uncontrolled backward fall-to-the-wall and blank expression as he drained out only intensified the unexpected horror of it all (Of course, his wife screaming bloody murder didn't help). Really though, this scene only set me up for what REALLY scared the crap out of me at 10, later in the film; when Helga came riding down on the step rider in her wheelchair, it stopped and she lurched forward, her head rolling down the stairs at Miriam's feet! Yep, damn near went into shock. Like bluerosekiller, I first saw HOMICIDAL on TV at 10 years old(with my Mom!), and didn''t sleep for a week. Needless to say, Weird Warren made me very uneasy throughout (I knew something wasn't right with him), and as someone mentioned before, Emily's hiss at Helga, 'He died...S-C-R-E-A-M-I-N-G...! ' was a highlight.

May 3 10 12:29 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	This may seem strange but I thought I recall seeing the 'Warren' character in an episode of "Perry Mason". This would have been late '62 or '63. Joan Marshall's list on IMDB does not detail any appearance on the show. If it was true, would there have been some contractual thing with Columbia with regard to her playing the role again in another film or tv series? I am following the CBS volumes of Perry Mason carefully. Season 5 (1962?) and 6 next year are coming up and hopefully I will know if I imagined it or not. Does anybody else have a similar weird recollection?

Supposedly the producers thought that the "Phobe" character was too similar to Carolyn Jones' "Morticia" on the ADDAMS FAMILY, and the part was recast with Yvonne DeCarlo I always thought that MADTV's "Trina Moss" character, a pristine, neurotic, infertile blonde lady (played by Mo Collins), was inspired by the "Emily" character in HOMICIDAL
