Count me in on the Tank Girl love train! Goofy fun (though it was butchered by the editors - the whole filmed end sequence was replaced with a cartoon) - and
it was the first film I ever saw Naomi Watts in (she plays Jet Girl).

If guilt provides pleasure for you, have at it. It doesn't do anything for me. I wasn't thinking of porn, though, I admit.
It seems to me that the concept of guilty pleasures is based on some elusive standard of cinematic perfection---so elusive that it doesn't exist, as far as I'm concerned. If I enjoy it, it doesn't matter to me if Pauline Kael or Gene Siskel would have approved. I don't value some vague critical guidelines over my own preferences. Furthermore, films that are revered in their day often lose their luster over the years and films that were once considered rubbish by the critics sometimes gain stature, even to the point of being regarded as classics, in later years. Why should I feel guilty about liking them all along? |

They oughta have a sequel to Tank Girl: Tank Girl vs. Machine Girl (the latter being the character from the recent Japanese
splatter-fest movie). Maybe they could even get Naomi Watts back as Jet Girl - ? Heck, anything to see that drill bra from MG in action once
again.
(I should probably mention I've never seen Tank Girl. I should probably also mention I'm here at work, filling in for another guy out on vacation, and I'm pretty bored.) Getting (quickly) back on topic, I sure would like a nice, sparkling DVD transfer of The Manster. "Bulls eye!" |
