I won't tip you off as to what the video's about but it's extremely well conceived and chillingly effective. I think I can guess what it is from the link. Pretty Grim stuff but with good intentions Prof |

Skelly - Thanks for posting that pic above from Frank Capra's, THE MIRACLE WOMAN. I keep hoping the film will pop up on TCM one of these days.
Here's two more vintage shots of unknown ventriloquists and their frightful figures. ![]()

That first dummy looks a little like Jack Palance as Mr. Hyde.
That second dummy....whoa....would this act have brightened any party or what?! And the ventriloquist looks so proud. Thanks for the creepy pics, Dr Spyclops! ZD |

Spy, keep 'em peeled - it has in the past. Far and away the best job I ever saw Manners do; redeems him for all the Uni milksops. Best, -Craig W. |

Thanx, Craig. I just got TCM about a year and a half ago and I've been smiling ever since.
Now, here's a nice, nightmare-inducing trio for ya, gang... ![]() ![]()
1) TRILOQUIST (2008) is a direct to video hatchet job by the writer/director of the LEPRECHAUN movies. I like the poster image but even the trailer left a lot to be desired, so I'm only mentioning the film here for the sake of completeness. Strictly for connoisseurs of trash cinema. 2) The second photo is "Archie the Dummy", a latex mask from a UK-based company called Rubber Gorilla. They do some nice, ghoulish work if you're looking for something for Halloween. Here's a link to see more... Rubber Gorilla 3) A hand-painted vent figure from Susan's Custom Creepy Dolls , a strange little website that I ran across accidentally one day. Susan's an ex-mortician(!) and taxidermist, who specializes in creating very weird and humorous, Tim Burton-esque original sculptures. Her site's a bit wonky to navigate but definitely worth the effort (Just a heads-up for the sqeamish: when you get to the page that has a Joan Crawford doll at the top, don't scan all the way down to the very bottom of the page. There's a very disturbing video clip of an eyeball being scooped out of its socket! Don't say I didn't warn ya.). Pleasant dreams, kids. -Dr. S.- |

Did you forget the Fantasy Island episode with the vent and dummy?
Sometimes I wish, often I wish, that I never knew some of those secrets of yours. - Carly Simon |

Fellow dummies-
I had the honor of playing with Serling's wonderful words a few times in episodes of THE TWILIGHT ZONE RADIO DRAMAS. Once, that was joined with the honor of paying tribute to a great character actor, Frank Sutton, and of working opposite another, the recently-late Bruno Kirby Jr. (thereby hangs a strange tale...), in THE DUMMY. My Dear Doktor Sknaggs,
Are you sure that's not H. Rap Brown? Curiously, EQP, Esq. |

Oh, that Lester.....splits from Willie Tyler and goes all radical on us. For those scoring at home, the photo Skelly posted above is actually from BLACK DEVIL
DOLL (2007), a blaxploitation horror / soft core sex comedy, that we touched on briefly way back on page 9.
I found a new website recently, where vent artist Albert Alfaro is selling a terrific custom recreation of "Fats" from MAGIC. ![]()

He also has many original figures for sale. Most are on the whimsical side but these two caught my eye... ![]() ![]()
Meet "Ridley the Undertaker" and "Chow Tu Wang". Chow sort of looks like Dr. Lao meets Alfred E. Neuman. You can see more at http://www.imaginariumgalleries.com/ventriloquist/ but be prepared to turn the volume down on your speakers. You'll know what I mean when you get there.
