Just a little question. Are these video so-called "technicians" having dog's shit in their eyes, for being unable to make a correct video
transfer of almost any movie, whatever the image ratio was ?

I don't get it. On my new DVD, the ratio looks just fine, exactly like the Legacy. All letters on all signs are completely visible.

I just A/B'd this new Special Edition DVD with my old 1999 Mummy DVD and....I concur with Joe.
At 1 minute, 55 seconds in, we see printed on the screen "Field Expedition ~ Season 1921 ~ British Museum". On the 1999 DVD, the "F" in "Field" and the "N" in "Expedition" are both totally visible on my TV. On this 2008 DVD, the "F" in "Field" is almost all the way off-screen and only half of the "N" in "Expedition" is visible. Glad I own both, as I only bought this new DVD for the new extras (which are great in my opinion). |

Thanks for helping me know I'm not crazy, Rak. Check out the newspaper later in the film.

Obviously the Universal vault fire only singed this film around the edges, thank God. |

There is plenty of room for it to move in the 1999 edition.. So what happened here..? Overcompensation for overscan..? Letting the apprentice do the work..? |

Speaking of Rick Baker, I wonder if the theatrical release of his new WOLF MAN will see a similar double DVD release of the original Chaney film? (And if so, wouldn't it be great to have a commentary by RB on either, or both, versions of the WOLF MAN?) |

I don't know if the plans have changed, but I was told months ago that it was in the cards. |

Hope for the sake of my fellow sufferers that it includes the Tom Weaver commentary, one of my favorites.

I, for one, refuse to purchase a reissued DVD just because of added on commentary/extras. If there is nothing new added to the actual movie, such as lost
footage, or upgraded elements, it is a waste of money that would be better spent on another DVD. Based on what I have read these "special" rerelease
editions are not so special after all as the quality of the movies themselves are inferior to earlier released editions on DVD, Laser, or VHS. With all due
respect to the talented people contributing to the commentaries I would be more willing to drop a few bucks for an audio CD or cassette chuck fill of
commentaries on all the Universal horrors then have them used to market Universal's latest two DVD reissue rip off. If y'all are happy with this sort
of product from Universal, fine, but I think you're just supporting it because there's nothing else from Universal to get excited about.

For those on the fence about if it's worth getting, here's what you get: Looks to include all the extras of the original MUMMY DVD, with the addition
of a new commentary track (still has the old one, as well) and a gallery of trailers to the Kharis films as well as the Karloff MUMMY trailer on the first DVD.
Second disc contains the just-under-half hour look back at Jack Pierce's legacy, and a one-reel featurette on Universal's mummy movies (which appears
to have originally been put together to promote THE MUMMY RETURNS), and the Brannagh-hosted UNIVERSAL HORRORS feature-length documentary. It also includes a
code (on a paper insert) to go online and download a free ticket to the new MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR release. Robert Summit said his copy didn't
seem to chop off any of the image but, like Joe Karlosi and Rakshasa, mine also seemed to leave information off at the sides. (Only tried it on the living
room TV, so don't know if I'll get the same results with the set in the den or not.)

Hey Tom: ever have nightmares wherein, say, the WOLF MAN gets reissued on DVD and you find out too late that they've accidentally included your
commentary from CREATURE WALKS AMONG US?
