It all kicked off with DUCK TALES, featuring Scrooge McDuck, voiced by Alan Young. Scrooge was unique enough a character that DUCK TALES became an after school ritual for me and my friends. And then how could we resist CHIP AND DALE'S RESCUE RANGERS? Another suprisingly well written and fun cartoon. I was living in Japan for most of TAIL SPIN's run, but loved what I did see. It seemed sort of like CASABLANCA meets TAILS OF THE GOLD MONKEY, and Shuree Khan as a sinister bussiness man! The ALADDIN show was another fave. Maybe only because I adore Gilbert Godfrey's Iago. Oh and DARKWING DUCK! There where some duds of course. I can vaugly recall a cartoon featuring a feline-like critter popular in Europe that Disney tried to adopt. And then there was the awful "teen" Huey, Duey and Louie cartoon that had nothing to do with DUCK TALES. I really enjoyed the previously mentioned shows though! DUCK TALES in particular was often the best thing on TV. www.itcamefromplanetx.com

(07/04/08 9:34 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	My friend Tim Tobolski is a big time Disney fan, and his enthusiasm was such that I found myself videotaping DUCK TALES every afternoon (right after my daily ritual of taping The Three Stooges on TBS!). I probably still have a coupla tapes worth of DUCK TALES laying around. A lot of the the fun was discovering that many episodes were adaptations of specific Carl Barks comic book stories, then comparing the two. And how could you resist Alan Young's Scottish brogue? RESCUE RANGERS was fun too. I still have several Happy Meal toys from that series. The crime fighting gadgets made out of household utensils were very inventive. Reminiscent of the stuff made by Betty Boop's Gampy. And of course, the whole animation resurgence was jumpstarted by the success of WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT?, the two-disk DVD of which I just picked up at our local library sale yesterday for a buck! Who could have imagined such a thing back in the Eighties? Great thread, Sparkie. Very timely!

(07/06/08 10:03 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	I think many of the post Little Mermaid features had series based around the film; I seem to remember liking the Hercules one pretty well, and the Tarzan one (in one of these Edgar Rice B meets up with Tarzan). I think there was a Little Mermaid one as well but I don't recall watching it, as well as Timon and Pumba from the Lion King. They were going to make one for Atlantis: The Lost Empire, but when the film failed, they took the three or so episodes that they had animated and made a direct to DVD film from it (and it was nowhere near the quality of the original feature). I don't think Hunchback had one.

(07/06/08 2:01 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	I guess I would have said THE LITTLE MERMAID kicked off the animation renaissance but you're right, Hal, it was ROGER RABBIT. (Bizarre to realize that ROGER RABBIT came out twenty years ago!)
