HA!!! With Will Ferrell as Watson, even Craig (Wich) will be longing for Nigel Bruce
And again I say: "The crap is afoot!"

The Holmes legend is stronger than anything modern Hollywood can to do him.
And truth be told, I kinda think Ferrell and Cohen as Holmes and Watson -- or was it the other way around -- might be really funny. |

Holmes has survived SMARTER BROTHER, WITHOUT A CLUE, and Cook & Moore. This should be no more than a momentary annoyance. And it might even be funny.

David and Rick are both correct of course. But...comedy (well, I guess most things) is 'selective' and

The Variety article on this also mentions another film, a drama to be directed by Guy Ritchie and written by Anthony Peckham, simply titled SHERLOCK
HOLMES. Imdb has it listed as coming out in 2010.

JAR, I've got nothing against parody; as David said, The Boys can survive it (they HAVE, since very soon after their birth!)
Whether this one will be fun... Best, -Craig W. |

The only things going for it are Apatow and Cohen. Otherwise, forget it. Ferrell playing second? To anyone? Doubtful. I would prefer to see a serious return to
form for Sherlock Holmes, outside of PBS/BBC. How about a Stuart Gordon Sherlock Holmes film?

Frankly, a Judd Apatow Holmes comedy scares me a lot less than a Guy Ritchie Sherlock-shoot-em-up.

I just hope it's as good as the Peter Cook/Dudley Moore Hound of the Baskervilles.
After what Hollywood did to Charlie Chan in that dreadful Peter Ustinov movie nothing would surprise me. |

Actually, Judd Apatow has earned my confidence at this point- if he's involved, odds are this will be both respectful AND funny. And although I haven't
been as impressed by Cohen as others, I can actually see him as Holmes (not so much Farrell as Watson... unless he decides to do a parody of Nigel Bruce, which
MIGHT work...)

My dear Dr. Medula...I had not thought of that (as one of the few members in the Nigel Bruce fan club)
a "parody of Nigel Bruce." Hmm...yes, perhaps. You've brightened my day.

Thewlis is a terrific choice. Spall is a truly wonderful actor, but, physically, is much more along the line of the pudgy, jowly, Nigel Brucian movie Watson,
than Doyle's good doctor.

Precode, I'm almost certain Apatow is kidding about that penis thing.... On the other hand, in Doyle's stories, Watson is actually successful with the
ladies, so it might be interesting to show the reason why...

Heck, even Nigel Bruce tries to "put the moves" on the young villainess in "Dressed to Kill" when
she makes her appearance at 221b.
