HORROR HALL OF FAME hosted by Vincent Price on ABC circa Mid 1970's |

Back in the mid 1970's on ABC Late Night TV was a special called THE HORROR HALL OF FAME which was hosted by VINCENT PRICE and I believe also had Forry
Ackerman. I would really like to see this issued on DVD. Does anyone remember this special? Also who would own the rights to this Special?

Love this little special; got it grey market a while back. John Carradine makes an appearance and tells his "I turned down Frankenstein" story...he
and Price also talk over some classic monster clips, giving an idea of what an audio commentary with those two could have been like! There's also a nice
look at some monster merchandise.

If it's the show I'm thinking of, it gave me my first look at Hammer Horror EVER... the scene from DRACULA HAS RISEN FROM THE GRAVE, where Drac yanks
the stake out of his chest. I'd never seen anything so graphic at the time, with the blood oozing and everything. I also got my first sampling of THE
EXORCIST on this show... just a brief moment where Merrin walks in and is introduced and the demon yells from upstairs: "MMMERRRRRRINNNN!!!!".
Those clips were scary as hell to me, and something out of the ordinary for the time.

I distinctly remember a late-night network special on horror movies that included that clip, as well as the operating room scene from DR. PHIBES where he doffs his mask for Joseph Cotten. In my memory, the show was hosted by John Astin, and Frank Gorshin was also a guest. Gorshin was wearing his hair very long, which looked quite weird. But this all may be jumbled in my memory from multiple sources. I'm 100% certain about the DRACULA and PHIBES clips, though. Are we talking about the same special? Or two different ones? |

Aycorn, I believe you're thinking of two separate shows. I remember HORROR HALL OF FAME very well, and Frank Gorshin did appear on that, talking to
Vincent, and did his Karloff impression. His hair was a little longer than usual, but not that much (like say Alice Cooper's). Somewhere--probably FM--I
saw a picture of them together. John Astin was not, to my recollection, on this show.

No, Gorshin's hair wasn't rock-star long - it was styled, one of those 70's type hairdos - though quite a bit longer than his usual buzzcut! |

John Astin IS in the Horror Hall of Fame show; I believe he's in the segment with horror merchandise, and he and Price talk about Astin's role in the
Addams Family.
There was a clip show in the late 80s/early 90s, aired around Halloween time, that Astin hosted. I can't remember what it was called, but it showed a lot of PD horror movie clips followed by supposedly funny cracks about the films.

There was an episode of Saturday morning's The Old Curiosity Shop that celebrated Vinnie's 100th film (as AIP was promoting it) with his appearance and
a clip from Phibes. The rest of the show devoted itself to classic horror films, with many clips shown.

in particular a clip of the '25 PHANTOM unmasking scene that totally creeped me out and made me feel weird for the rest of the day. Also, they cut and
pasted the scenes of KING KONG climbing the apartment building so that it appeared he was peering in the windows of the Curiosity Shop. If anyone reading
this has a copy of this show, PLEASE PM me.

I very vaguely remember seeing a (narrated) TV special on sci-fi/horror/monster films in the early-mid 1970s, title and host unknown. What I do recall were
clips from VILLAGE OF THE GIANTS (the scene where Ronnie Howard's giant dog takes a whiff of the chemical concoction and shrinks back to normal size) and
(I think) THE VULTURE. I'm pretty sure it contained clips from alot of the classic stuff (especially Universal), and I'm pretty sure there was the man
vs. cat and man vs. spider scenes from INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN.
I know it wasn't THE HORROR SHOW (which I've seen recently on Chiller) or THAT'S HOLLYWOOD, as this unknown documentary would've pre-dated either of these, and I don't think there were any 1970s films covered. And it probably wasn't MONSTERS WE'VE KNOWN AND LOVED (which I don't think I've ever seen), since the most recent film covered in that was INCREDIBLY STRANGE CREATURES WHO STOPPED LIVING AND BECAME MIXED-UP ZOMBIES, right? I doubt it was THE HORROR HALL OF FAME, as I would've remembered Astin and Price. Anyone know what show this might've been? "I say ALL you scientists are CRACKPOTS! Nothing is going to happen..."

Astin was on the Price-hosted Horror Hall of Fame show as capmonte said, in the merchandise segment. They showed a Mattel Herman Munster puppet and Astin
mentions it is styled to look like Fred Gwynne. Carradine was on it too, and mentions the Frankenstein thing. There was more than one HH of F show.
Astin also did a show for cable in the 90s(TV Land or HBO maybe?), dressed as Gomez Addams, called HAUNTED HOLLYWOOD, or something to that effect. I have both these shows, plus the 'other' HH of F, here somewhere... |

I remember this show. Zuckman the "curator," a segment with Frank Gorshin talking about how he changes his kid's diaper like Bela Lugosi, a
display of props, including the arm from "The Thing From Another World." I seem to recall that the same set was used for introductions to some of
Price's American International films, particularly "War Gods of the Deep."
