Ronald Howard's SHERLOCK HOLMES, bargain DVD set |

Almost posted this in the TV thread, but I think it's target audience will find it faster, here. Mill Creek has the complete series as a multi-disk set,
with new introductions by Christopher Lee on each DVD, for under $10. (Found one at K-Mart, last night.)

The introductions by Christopher Lee are not new, they date from the 1980s and are not episode specific. Decent package though and good value for money as it
does contain all 39 half hour episodes.

For the completists/purists out there (and I know you are), there's a couple of nitpicks you could make about this set. Some of the episodes are missing
the mid-point voice over by Watson, "We now return to the case of the. . ." that were on the VHS release boxed set. Also, one episode is of markedly
poorer quality than the VHS counterpart -- I believe it's "Harry Crocker" -- which is so dark that at times the screen goes completely black.
Still & all, a good price for the whole set, and a neat little series that deserves at least one look.

Well, they were new when Lee first did them.

I had quite a few VHS casettes with two or one of these TV shows on them, sometimes as extras, with some duplicates. Getting them all in one DVD set allowed me
to clear quite a bit of shelf space.

But their correct place is here - especially as they were shot in 35mm and (in France, in any case) shown in movie theaters. The same goes, of course, with "Colonel March of Scotland Yard" and some others - in fact I even had some episodes on 35mm reels years ago, among them "The Case of the Kidnapped Poodle"... I know, in Great-Britain, only the three first episodes were theatrically released, in the form of a feature, and the 23 others only seen on TV - but in this country the 26 episodes were shown (separately) BOTH in theaters and on TV !
