Nifty, but way too modernized, trailer. Nice colors. Crappy flv. But still nice.
Now when's the damn dvd comin' out? Blimey... |

Don't know if that version will come out, mainly because I believe the restoration was carried out and funded by the BFI (although I'm willing to be
proved wrong), and not Warner Bros, who I did hear were doing their own re-master, although this may be rumour, anyone know more?

I was really hoping for a new DVD on my 50th birthday this July, but it looks like it isn't going to happen. HORROR OF DRACULA is my favorite film and it
was playing first run on the day I was born.

The BFI remastered version was a joy to behold. I saw it last Halloween at a cinema in Glasgow. It looked amazing and went down very well to the packed
auditorium.
I don't think there's any plan to release it on DVD but........... you never know. |

Did the BFI (I would hope) use a print with the original UK Dracula title? I saw a still of the title in and issue of House That Hammer Built and it was this
beautiful script that blows away the US title font! I'd love to see the film with that title rather than the Horror of Dracula that Warners puts out. Ah,
one can wish!

Did anyone here happen to get the HD broadcast of this Tim Lucas wrote about a couple of months ago on Video Watchblog?

This has probably been covered elsewhere, but just in case: Have always wondered why Hammer's first Frankenstein film wasn't simply called
FRANKENSTEIN, the way their first Dracula film was simply called DRACULA.

Weren't 'Bram Stoker's Dracula' and 'Mary Shelley's Frankenstein' so called because Universal has some claim on 'Dracula' and 'Frankenstein' as film titles? Those two were intentionally called that to promote that they were intended to be the first completely "authentic" adaptations of each novel. (Although both versions strayed from the source material, which has been discussed/dissected, elsewhere.) Like TREASURE ISLAND, A CHRISTMAS CAROL, JEKYLL & HYDE or THE THREE MUSKETEERS (and other literary classics), those two novels are in public domain and anyone can do a film adaptation. (Turner did a version of FRANKENSTEIN, there's the Canadian production of FRANKENSTEIN with Carrie Fisher and David Warner, etc.)

I thought it was because the Universal FRANKENSTEIN had been officially released in Britain, but the Lugosi DRACULA had not. Therefore, there was no ambiguity
in the latter case.
Did the remainder of the Hammer DRACULA titles use that script, or does it revert to the familiar lettering after the title? |
