reached the impressive age of 90. Genre films he was in include THE WORLD THE FLESH AND THE DEVIL, THE HANDS OF ORLAC (the 1960s version with Christopher
Lee), BLOOD AND ROSES, EATEN ALIVE and CITY OF THE WALKING DEAD. He was also a regular on FALCON CREST for a while.

Let's not forget SCREAMERS, the US version of ISLE OF THE FISH MEN (Ferrer is only in the Bronson Canyon-shot added footage).

About ten years ago, I wrote to him (identifying myself as someone who'd done hundreds of interviews with people who made horror, science-fiction and
fantasy films) to ask for an interview. He sent back my letter, writing on the bottom, "I'm sorry but I don't believe that I fit the
classification of 'horror, science-fiction and fantasy films.'" (Excuuuuuuse me!) Oh well.
I always liked BLOOD AND ROSES a lot, and really would have enjoyed hearing him talk about it. |

Mel also co-starred as King Arthur with Robert Taylor and Ava Gardner in MGM's first CinemaScope production, THE KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE

His swordfight with Stewart Granger in SCARAMOUCHE is world class.

The ironic thing is, I wrote him about 15 years ago, he signed a British FOH still for me from Hands of Orlac, and nicely answered a couple of questions for me. My press credentials... zero. |

I wrote Mel Ferrer a letter last year inviting him to a screening of Blood and Roses at the Egyptian. Imagine my surprise when he phoned back,
thanked me for the invitation and told me that Blood and Roses was his daughter's favorite film and he also thought highly of it. Unfortunately,
he had recently had a fall, was on crutches and didn't see how he could make it even if I sent a car for him up to Carpinteria. Ferrer was very nice, but
sounded extremely weak. and sick, I truly regret he didn't make it that night and feel badly that he passed on, though not surprised.

My wife had his obit from the newspaper yesterday. She fondly remembered him from WAR AND PEACE. She saw his films when she was a teen.
