Monster stars names in music? |
Lead | |
|
Ok, don't know if this has been covered already, but just a pondering... Is there any music from any style that actually uses the name of a horror movie
star?? The big names anyway: Karloff, Lugosi, Chaney, Price, Carradine, etc.. The only one I have heard so far is Warren Zevons Werewolves of London with the
mention of Lon Chaney Jr walking with the queen! Any others out there??

I guess the Bobby Boris Pickett doesn't count as it refers to Bobby Pickett not Karloff, but it's close... but no cigar!

In his 1976 number one hit ('Year of the Cat') Al Stewart sings: "...walking through the crowd like
Peter Lorre contemplating a crime." Sweet!
"We didn't come here to fight monsters, we're not equipped for it" -- Richard Carlson (Creature from the Black Lagoon)
"There ought to be a law against fat people owning little dickie-birds"-- Nigel Bruce (The Woman in Green) |

The Kinks have a song called Celluloid Heroes, which contains the wonderful line... "Avoid steppin' on Bela Lugosi, cause he's liable to turn
an' bite"

Not so much the BIG names, but
"Leo G. Carroll was over a barrel..." and "I really got hot when I saw Janette Scott..." and "Anne Francis stars in Forbidden Planet..." and "Dana Andrews said prunes gave him the runes..." Science Fiction from THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW.

I have not heard this CD yet, but it might be worth checking out by the musical mavens on this esteemed Board:
The CD is titled 'Addicted To Bad Ideas' and is by New York band World Inferno Friendship Society. The opening track (I believe to be instrumental) is titled 'Peter Lorre Overture' Reviewers call the W.I.F.S. a "A Weimar era Klezmer band playing cabaret punk on Halloween." This CD is supposedly a creepy, dark spin through the films of Peter Lorre. Another track is called 'M is for Morphine.' Amazon is selling it for around 14 bucks. fwiw EDIT ADDENDUM- After 'surfing' over to both 'FM Last' and the MySpace for W.I.F.S. I managed to listen to four of the songs from the CD. Pretty good stuff. The Peter Lorre Overture is actually a very nice tune till the "Cramps" style punk kicks in with about 30 seconds to go. Nice. The song 'Addicted to Bad Ideas' is toe-tapping infectious with the sufficient angst necessary for a life like Lorre's. I also appreciate the cover art for this CD. It is a take-off of the art used in the Fritz Lang movie "M." (Lorre's memorable role as the child-killer)
