Looks great.
That's a must have, my opinion! Looking over the guest stars gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. One of the things I've found most enjoyable about watching the old 60's dramas and sitcoms is the plethora of familiar faces that made the rounds back then. One week you see a star on Bewitched, the next he/she is on The Invaders. A couple years back it might have been Bonanza or perhaps Leave it to Beaver as a youngster. As much as seeing the show and it's cast, I love seeing those interchangeable guest stars. |

Hey, this character man has nothing but respect for those old character men - but there are replacements today.
Solid actors who you'll see on SEINFELD, then LAW & ORDER, then HOUSE, then... Great holiday, -Craig W. |

Ooh, this release looks great, gonna have to grab me a copy ASAP! Haven't seen this show since I was a teen, but have fond memories of it.
Glad to see it's finally coming out and treated respectfully by Paramount (hero to fans of vintage TV-on-DVD). Transfers look good, too. |

I picked up my copy today at Best Buy. GREAT job all around. Menus have music...they retained the "Next...the Invaders In Color" intros.....Roy
Thinnes interview is a lot of fun. The extended pilot has a couple of scenes NEVER SEEN BEFORE! It's a very clear transfer also....for those who have seen
the Canadian TV bootleg version of the extended pilot. I read that the "regular" version of BEACH HEAD on disc one is time compressed to 49 minutes
resulting in audible pitch shifted voices but I haven't watched it yet. Apparently all the remaining episodes are normal....51/52 minutes in length. There
are also 3 ABC promos for the series. The picture and sound quality of the shows I've skimmed thru is great.

Watched the first two shows last night and am loving them! Very little memory of this series except watching it on the French channel when my french was less
than passable. Very cool!

In his interview, Thinnes comes across as low key and likable, with a wry sense of humor. In fact, he reminds me somewhat of David Vincent, for some reason!
Also, his wire-rimmed glasses and bow tie give him an amusing professorial air. He did make one blooper, though, in one of his episode introductions. He said
Burgess Meredith played the Joker on BATMAN. Well, very obviously, everyone knows that Meredith was the Catwoman and... uh... wait a minute...

I just finished up the DVD set and I really loved it.
I could pick apart problems with continuity, but there's something about the overall impact that impresses me enough to make me overlook the flaws. One question occurs to me: Was there ever another series that had such a high mortality rate for its guest stars? (Maybe COMBAT?) I mean, not to give too much away, but they were knocking guest stars off left and right. Read my DVD review here: http://cinefantastiqueonline.com/2008/05/31/dvd-review-the-invaders-the-first-season/ It doesn't get into technical stuff as much as the DVD Beaver review, but otherwise provides more detail. |
