The piano only score~at times I was wondering if Liberace was playing, at times it got very melodramatic. Maybe, as others have pointed out, I can grow to like this odd score. Second problem for me was the speeding up of the camera while the Colossus walks~this didn't happen all the time but when it did I thought it was humorous.

I actually like that piano score that I can't enough of it but I agree the sped up scenes were out of place which I think should be use only for comedies. Luis

Second problem for me was the speeding up of the camera The combination reminded me of a comedic silent film - very inappropriate. Considering Van Cleave had just done "Space Children" with it's wild theremin, and would later compose some beautiful Twilight Zone scores and "Robinson Crusoe on Mars," the CONY score is a huge let down. He probably wrote a score for an orchestra, but judging from the recycled underwater Colossus shots, and the chintzy set design of the UN Building, it's appears they only had the budget for a piano. of course, of corpse, a horse is a corpse, of corpse!

I like it, though - I think it gives the film a rather bizarre and unique tone. Same thing with the sped up scenes. Those scenes certainly walk a fine line between comedy and weirdness, but I think the weirdness of it wins. Gil

"Your loving father is dead, Billy, but we'll bring him back as a pathetic shell of his former self only to lead to you killing him...AGAIN! I can't imagine myself actually wanting to ever sit through it again, unless I get the overwhelming urge to feel sad and depressed. I DID like the piano score, though! Golem was suppose to be an ancient legend, not futuristic, so yeah, Colossus looks cooler with his robot head, but he gets a pretty shabby wardrobe -- again with the budget constraints. I'm surprised he wasn't wearing a whiskey barrel with suspenders. Even Karloff's Monster was better dressed. of course, of corpse, a horse is a corpse, of corpse!

(05/23/08 8:25 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	Hey Dead, I just wanted to make a comment that I thought the Colossus looked better (even more German) than THE GOLEM~a design I never liked. I also agree that COLOSSUS owes a bit to THE GOLEM. I laughed when they descibed the function of the lever that the Colossus couldn't reach, very much like the star on The Golems chest.

(05/23/08 10:01 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	I wasn't denying Colossus looks cooler than Golem, only that it doesn't make sense to me to compare them physically since they have such different purposes/backgrounds/mythos. You couldn't cast Colossus in "The Golem" and vice versa. I'd put Golem in the Curse of Faceless Man/Mummy category. I see what you mean about Colossus having a "German" look (one of the movie posters online I believe is in German - coincidence?), but again, this would be a much later industrial style that didn't exist when "The Golem" was made. There's a caption (too tiny to read here) that reads when translated, "Buddy, can you spare a dime?" which attest to the budget problems they were having. of course, of corpse, a horse is a corpse, of corpse!
