SparkieGojira wrote: I am. Much better. Some people, including Beverly, suggested it might be gout, my old enemy. At first I rejected the idea--I've had gout several times, and it is extremely painful, just like this, but it had always manifested itself in the joints of my left big toe. This was my right ankle. But I checked online and found gout can indeed turn up in other joints (and even, weirdly, in ear lobes). I came to the conclusion Sunday evening it probably was the gout, and would go away soon. It pretty much has. There is a drug, allopurinol, which prevents gout, but when I had my heart problems, my kidneys were somewhat compromised, and allopurionol is not recommended for people with weakened kidneys. So I don't take it, and sometimes I get the gout. It's so incredibly painful that I just gotta beg my doctor to find out if there's something LIKE allopurinol that I can take. Gout is like hemorrhoids: very funny until you get it (or them). Hemorrhoids also can be astonishingly painful. You'd think that if you hurt that much, it would kill you. Perhaps unfortunately, it doesn't. |

Have we discussed how Yuku somehow changes the plus (or minus) symbol and the number eight into a smilie emoticon when you put parenthesis around them?
Here's with the parenthesis: (+ Here's without the parenthesis: +8 |

Bill, if you're intending on using those on your hemorrhoids, I'd advise against it.
Seriously, I've gone through a few painful periods in my life and find that besides a good attitude, humor is essential to get through the tough times. Last year was the chemotherapy with some residual pain since, and in decades past: impacted wisdom teeth and another pulled (pain medication wore off!), slipped disk, broke another guys collarbone with my face (baseball collision), assorted sports related muscle pulls, and the kicker - cut off a couple toes in a lawn mower encounter when I was 13. My brother and I were joking about that one as I lay in a hospital corridor
prior to being operated on. Like I said, humor was damn essential! Seriously!

Is it all that hot where you are? | ||

My niece who lives in Coos Bay, Oregon, just dropped a note that the temperature was 75 when she went to work this morning, 110 when she
went home for lunch....

This is the first warm sunny day we've had in Seattle for what seems like eons! And it's a friday to boot! I suspect it is physiologicaly impossible to
be gloomy on a day like today!

I believe it. Yesterday I was still wearing two heavy jackets and blasting the heater. Today it's shorts, T-shirt and blasting the fan. But by this point I
am grateful for anything other than another cold, cold day.
I'm sure I will be griping about the heat by this time next week!

So far today, the high in Coos Bay was 87, according to the National Weather Service. But that's hot enough, yeah!

"92 degrees. Not 91, not 93, but 92 degrees!"
Errr... is that how the line from IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE" goes? Not sure how hot it is in Seattle right now, but I did the dishes just now and am dripping in sweat. Seattle's cooler climate has be totally spoiled (Considering I've lived though many a summer in Tokyo, Saudi Arabia and Oklahoma.).
