I have heard through the grapevine that there will be no audio commentaries for CMs releases of WOG and RODAN. Of course, this is just hearsay, so we'll
have to wait and see.

Sales determine everything; it's about the "bottom line," after all, right?

That's a real shame about no commentary for WOTG. I can't imagine there's much production cost involved...mainly the cost in time and talent for
the commentator to prepare and perform the track. It's not like producing a documentary feature, and it adds so much value.

I doubt it would cost them more the it did Media Blasters to just employ the Japanese Audio Commentary and subtitle it -- for the Japanese DVD of WOG the Audio
Commentary is with actress Kumi Mizuno and RODAN is with visual effects cameraman Sadamasa Arikawa (who has now left us).

I was fortunate enough to see this at the drive in in 1970 as a double feature with Monster Zero. My brother and I imitated Gaila for years after that. What an amazing roar/shriek he had! (Gaila I mean...not my brother). Actually has a few pretty frightening moments in it. Gaila chasing the sailors who are trying to swim away from him. The ocotopus sequence. Gaila staring up at the fisherman from underwater. Gaila was onwe frightening beast. Robert T. |

As good as the Classic Media discs are...... those media blasters discs are the s#&*! I wish we could have gotten the CM ones with the subbed
commentaries. Being able to undetstand what Arikawa says is priceless now that he is gone.

Toho's original Audio Commentaries included:
GODZILLA (1954) - actor Akira Takarada GODZILLA RAIDS AGAIN (1955) - Sadamasa Arikawa MOTHRA VS. GODZILLA (1964) - actor Kenji Sahara GHIDRAH (1964) - actress Akiko Wakabayashi MONSTER ZERO (1965) - actor Yoshio Tsuchiya GODZILLA'S REVENGE (1969) - director Koji Hashimoto (now deceased) TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA (1975) - visual effects cameraman Shokei Tomioka (To be fair, I would have liked to have seen Sony include the Japanese audio commentaries on their releases, too.)

Who did the commentary for King Kong Vs Godzilla?
I must say I've really enjoyed the commentaries on the Classic Media DVDs. Compenstes for their lacklusture handling of the US versions of the films |

The Audio Commentary subjects for the Japanese DVD of KING KONG VS. GODZILLA were Assistant Director Koji Kajita (under Honda) and actor Yu Fujiki (now
deceased).
Just for the record, here are the Audio Commentaries for remaining Showa Godzilla titles: GODZILLA VS. THE SEA MONSTER - Godzilla suit actor Haruo Nakajima SON OF GODZILLA - Sadamasa Arikawa DESTROY ALL MONSTERS - Assistant Director Kiyoshi Tani (under Honda) GODZILLA VS. HEDORAH - Visual Effects Director Teruyoshi Nakano More later...

with Akira Kubo, I think?) are pretty forgettable - literally! I've listened to both of them and can't remember a single thing from either one, except
a very respectful and courteous older Japanese gentleman talking with an interviewer.

I'd agree only if the experts get their facts straight... I'm not going to argue with you, but Kubo's commentary on MATANGO gave tremendous insight
into the Japanese Studio System of the time (plus, MB subtitling the Teruyoshi Nakano interview on how the effects were done was excellent), and Murase's
commentary on VARAN was also extremely insightful in regards to the visual effects department. The folks who worked on these films, generally, dispense
first-hand information on making these films that non-Japanese experts (due to the language barrier) can't touch -- Fumio Tanaka's commentary on the
SPACE AMOEBA/YOG disc is especially enlightening.
Just my opinion (it would be great if we could have the luxury of both).

Very surprised to hear the negative comments on the commentaries. I think I enjoyed the commentaries as much as I did the movies themselves. What a fascinating
opportunity to learn about these films from people involved in their creation.

It has been reported on the AVManiacs forum that RODAN and WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS will be packaged together as one release. My question is, single
double feature disc or a two-disc set? (Hoping for the latter.)
