And no Island of Lost Souls again. Maybe it's stuck on the Island of Lost Movies.

We just have to wait for someone to make crappy remakes of our favorite films so we can get the originals as "extras" on the DVDs.

Rather I see something similar to what LEGEND FILMS deal with PARAMOUNT? A smaller company like LEGEND FILMS, BCI ECLIPSE, ROAN/TROMA or even maybe ALPHA VIDEO would probably be more viable. |

Perhaps an offshoot of Universal, like with Focus Features did with MST3k: THE MOVIE? Hmm. Good point, pinkfloyd95209.

As I've said elsewhere before, I think we'll look back on these times (the first 10 years of dvd) as the "golden days" for classic film
collectors. The truth is I have most of what I want, and more than I ever dreamed would be possible when I was a 16mm collector. There will still be the
occasional disc or two for us geezers, but the bulk is out there and the lesser things will never see the kinds of sales that will lure studios to put them out
often or lavishly.
The hobby may go back to being somewhere between what it is now and what it was - a niche for geeks that swap increasingly rare prints of beloved chestnuts while small time operators make "gray market" copies of wanted obscurities. The good thing is that the new technologies make duplicating a film easier, cheaper, and of higher quality than the days of "film pirating". This assumes we don't sink into a global Great Depression II. SAM33 |

It's amazing. Something like Monster Kid Home Movies sells enough DVD's for the producers to plan a 2nd volume, but Universal Horror Classic Movie
Archive aparently didn't sell enough for a 2nd volume. How many copies were bought anyway?

I would like to have gotten MAD GHOUL, LOST SOULS, MURDERS IN THE ZOO, but even later fun-junk like THE THING THAT COULDN'T DIE, but it does seem kinda hopeless at present. A studio sanctioned OLD DARK HOUSE would also have been devoutly to be wished. I do suspect LOST SOULS must have some issue with it's state of preservation they're not keen on tackling, the last mastering was almost twenty years ago. |

I think the Bottom Line, as always, is that the major studios get too greedy. They want homeruns all the time, instead of the occasional single. It's
wrong, and it leaves some consumers out of the game.

Bottom-line, as with anyone in business, it's all about making money! I'm not happy about it, but I understand their decision.

A few singles here, a bunt now and then, along with the Grand Slams. And everyone's happy, and the studios keep raking it in. I still can't buy the whole idea that ISLAND OF LOST SOULS is not coming out on DVD because the movie did "poorly" on VHS. Did CAPTIVE WILD WOMAN or SHE-WOLF OF LONDON do that much better? Because both were included within DVD "multi movie sets". ISLAND OF LOST SOULS could easily be tossed in with "great sellers" like those, then, if Uni thinks it'll be some kind of bankruptcy situation. It's just a load a' hooey.

I don't mean to try and sound positive but Universal was releasing our genre classics for eight years with only 2003 taken off. They've released well
over 50 titles and all but the most obscure stuff (plus IOLS) is out. Compare that to what Paramount does with it's stuff, or how long Fox took to get in
the game and things are seen more in their proper perspective.

You mean to tell me, evilskippy, that you haven't been longing for a two-disc Spec Ed of VAN HELSING? Crikey, man...what is wrong with you?
Oh wait. I got it mixed up with something good. |
