Gee, that's great, My Lord Caesar, but I think her smile needs a little more work.

Caesar, nice for a quick doodle, but where is the light source? But it is a great post-Mork Robin Williams! Mrs. Doubtfire? He smirks and mocks us!

I figured I'd try my hand at sculpture. I borrowed some of my daughter's play-doh (I don't think she'll notice the small amount I took) and
came up with this-

Caesar, that's a great painting of the gnomes from RETURN TO OZ. And it looks almost photographic!

I've been away from this thread for much too long. Terrific work, everyone!
ZD - Wonderful series of Norman Bates pastels. Each piece is nicely rendered and when viewed together, they look like the conclusion of a PSYCHO graphic novel. The new piece with Marion Crane is stunning, particularly the moonlit Bates house. No one I know captures the mood of a movie better than you do, ZD. Nice Christopher Lee, too. The dark upper background adds a lot of depth to the portrait. Cap - I really like your line work on Nosferatu and his little friend, and the way you're laying down your color values. Can't wait to see more. Pat - Beautiful work. I hope you don't mind sharing some technical insights with us. What sort of medium and support are you using in your Kong and Doc Savage pieces? Also, how large are the originals? |

Thanks, Doc Spyclops!
Nice Christopher Lee, ZD! Super Doc Savage, Pat! I'm a sucker for any piece that has a sepia toned map behind it! And, Caesar, the sculpt looks great! All except Groucho. You sculpted him with the moustache, but the moustache was just painted on. It would have no three dimensional value. I guess you could always go back and chisel it away. But, nice try anyway. Chico and Harpo look great, and you can always fake Zeppo---nobody really remembers what he looked like anyway. |

About two months ago a piece of my past caught up with me.
In my teen years I was a pretty quick draw with a pen & marker. I doodled and sketched endlessly. Never took it seriously. I just did it for fun. Then around nineteen or twenty I stopped. Don't know or remember why. Just did. I hadn't thought about it since, until on my last visit to my sister she asked me if I wanted my portfolio. I had no idea what the hell she was talking about until she explained that she had kept a large black portfolio of some of my drawings up in the attic. I was stunned. It never dawned on me that someone kept that junk. She said once in a while she thought about tossing it in the trash, but then shed flip through it and remember looking over my shoulder while I did some of them and it brought back a lot of memories of when we were kids. She just couldn't do it. She kept forgetting to tell me she had this stuff, so it just sat there in here attic for decades. We both got a kick out of looking at it again. Unfortunately the years have aged it. Some of them got wet and turned to mulch. Some (of my favorite pieces) weren't even there. Who knows where they ended up. Anyway, as lousy as they are I thought I post a few that survived. Take into account I wasn't any artist, just a monster kid who loved drawing monsters. Here's the gang on a break backstage at Universal in the 40s & 50s

Here are a few more.
Apparently I also fancied myself a storyboard artist at one time. Here is what remains of a proposed stop-motion TV commercial for a local radio station.
Man I had lofty ideas back then...

Fantastic stuff, Ghost Of Chaney's Liver! I see some Al Hirschfeld influence, especially with the Universal Monsters! Please try to find more!
