It exhibits a comfort level, compared with your other color pieces, in working with multiple mediums! MORE! Zombie Papa just keeps on truckin' with comedy and now even sword and sandals! MORE! Karen, I think Bug's portrait is wonderful. I don't know why Mom considers it sick. When our last pooch, Ruffy, passed away Cheryle got a headstone for him that is a puppy with angel wings. I think it is a fitting memorial to a dear departed friend! MORE! And, Pat006---the hits just keep on comin'! Great eye! MORE! The pieces that I've posted here are years old---looking at all of this beautiful work has given me the itch to get out the art supplies again! Inspirational!

(03/20/08 2:25 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	Striking cover art, Pat! I did 'Moses' (years ago) using hard pastels, sharpened to points. It's possible that I used some soft pastels as well but it's been so long, I can't say for sure. I wish I still had this one. It was displayed in the lobby of a theater and I never got it back. Can't remember why! Years ago I learned to do precise work with pastels by observing a supremely talented pastel artist from Kentucky, working in a shopping mall in Cincinnati, Ohio. I watched her work hours and hours, day after day. We even became friends for a time, but I haven't seen her in years and do not know what became of her. More recently, I've had the privelege of watching Frank Dietz work at several Wonderfests. These experiences have been my 'art school'. Since then, I've been attending the School of Hard Knocks. Karen, your 'Pete' is so alive and so beautiful. I really love your work! ZD

(03/20/08 3:12 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	haha!! great canine work karen,love it, pete looks really alive, I must say that ,being a "human portrait artist"myself , I found it very difficult to capture that spark of life in an animal portrait , cats,dogs ,gorillas, lions, horses they're the most challenging to me, as a matter of fact the above wolf is one of the most difficult pieces I've ever done. PASTELS! can't say I enjoy working with those, but the effect you've achieved is very good, I didn't recognize them. love sketchy frank's work with pastels as well, too bad he's very busy at the moment, wish we could see some more of your art frank!

I'm at a standstill with people so I can relate. You did a marvelous job with the face of the wolf. Pete really is a rescue dog he's at Spindletop Refuge and survived hurricaine Katrina, I have others I'm working on a Faces of Katrina portfolio. This is Caitlin. She's an old dog now who was found as a youngster with her ears cut off by scissors. She's about 10 now. He hovers, as indicated by the placement of his hands, between Heaven and Earth. He has within him the passion of the rose and the purity of the lily. The Magician is in command of all that is around him represented by his mastery of the four suits of the Tarot, Pentacles, Swords, Wands and Cups (Earth, Wind, Fire and Water). (03/23/08 10:50 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	Awwww Rats Caitlin is a happy girl she's fed and loved on and at least she's been cared for and about at the Refuge longer than she was the mutilated puppy. She doesn't remember, really. Frank thanks so much! I just do what dogs feel right. Tonight I did Dilly's daddy Elvis when I was supposed to be doing more Spindletop dogs and a couple more Rowdy pics. I just started and gave up a lot then got out some taupe paper I bought yesterday and pastel pencils and voila. Took all day but Elvis said today was his day. ZD that drawing is excellent! My husband liked it very much too. Pat I really envy your skills with people AND pencil! I need a lot more practice with graphite. Cap you really need to see about getting out your stuff and getting back to finishing the Tarot deck. What you have done so far is amazing for the vibrancy of colors and the way that you've chosen to interpret the faces of the cards themselves. Everyone please meet Elvis. (03/24/08 12:01 AM) Burgomaster Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	It's been more than ten years since I made a monster on paper and this charcoal of Erik in his Red Death finery is probably the last thing I did along those lines (around 1995 or 1996). I know longer have it; I gave it to Forrest J. Ackerman at 1998 Monster Bash con. It is a detail study for a painting I wanted to do but never got around to starting. It primarily charcoal with som black pastel, white pastel and white pencil. Going through some photos I found these. There is some glare from the fixative and the contrast washes out a lot of the mask's texture, but I'm afraid these photos are the best I can do. GARY L. PRANGE "Sic gorgiamus allos subjectos nunc."
