Quote:What I think SHOULD be a controversy is why Monsters From the Vault always comes in second (behind Video Watchdog) for best magazine. MFTV is, for starters, a REAL monster magazine. VW is not. MFTV offers the highest scholarship of ANY monster mag EVER, and does so consistently. Quite a feat, I must say.

Quote:I believe the only reason it doesn't win this award each and every year is because MFTV is published so infrequently, and therefore its circulation is lower...

Quote:You may not know this, but each time I have won the Best Magazine Rondo, I have offered to step out of the next year's competition, unfair as that may be to the efforts of my contributors, because three, even two, Rondo statuettes are enough to win for any one thing. But David Colton has told me repeatedly, "No one steps out" -- meaning, I guess, that if a magazine exists, it has to be taken into account on the ballot or the award becomes dishonest.
Quote:I'd love to get MFTV but as I live in London it's impossible since they can't ship outside the UK. I've got a few early copies which I got from my local Forbidden Planet when they sometimes stocked it.
Quote:I have no dog in this hunt, as I have unfortunately never had the opportunity to peruse an issue of MFTV -- I've never seen it on a newsstand or in a bookstore (where one does encounter VW, Scarlet Street and other publications.).
Full disclosure: I am a subscriber to VW (among other magazines) and enjoy it immensely. I have voted for VW in Rondo ballots of the past. Naturally I was unable to vote for MFTV, having never had a chance to read it. (Which I would like to do, as it sounds like a great mag.)

Quote:Now wait a minute: Weaver won for interviews with Kay Linaker in VW in 2002; Rhodes won for the 1930s horror ban in MONSTERS FROM THE VAULT in 2003; and Weaver (drat the man!) won for Dunagan in VW in 2004.

Quote:Perhaps I should swing down to the newstand and grab a copy of VW to see what all the fuss is about. I haven't read a copy in years, and didn't remember it having such a focus on the classics.
