Halloween has always been my favorite holiday, even though I am what would be classified as middle aged.
I celebrate it by carving a Jack O Lantern or two and watching TCM and along with select DVDs. I select movies that either take place around Halloween along with some that I think embody the Halloween spirit. Those movies do not include any of the Halloween series of movies.
This year I did not buy the pumpkin until the day before Halloween and as of this moment I can't summon the energy or motivation to carve it.
Here are some of the movies I watch:
Something Wicked This Way Comes--takes place in the fall.
Sleepy Hollow--the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp movie--very nicely done, takes place in the fall, has Jack O Lanterns in the background even though this is well before the practice of carving Jack O Lanterns existed in the US.
Arsenic & Old Lace--not a horror film, but takes place on Halloween and has Halloween in the background.
Curse Of The Demon--Very atmospheric and well done. There is a costume party for kids in the background so I assume it occurs around Halloween in the UK.
Val Lewton movies like Cat People and The Seventh Victim--these movies don't involve Halloween, but are atmospheric and I like them.
Edited to add: Every two or three years I re-read the book The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury.
Anyway, I'm wondering if people in this forum do anything special for Halloween moviewise or celebrate it some other way.
