Ok here's a new one.......I asked a friend of mine this question today and thought, what a perfect question to post on the CHFB.
It's dinner time for you and 3 movie star guests. Those guests can be living or dead. Who would you invite for dinner and why? Try to keep it in theme with the genre.

1. Vincent Price...one of the great raconteurs, very well read, and well be able to tell the chef or two on making a great meal.
2. Peter Lorre - to keep Vincent from dominating the conversation with some droll witticisms of his own to undercut the proceedings. Not to mention his own incredible array of anecdotes. 3. Boris Karloff - just so I can quiz him about his time in Canada. In other words, it appears I really need to create a time machine so I can visit the wrap party for Corman's THE RAVEN.

Could we vary just a bit from movie stars? Let's assume that it is circa 1935. If I could invite any three people involved with the genre the first guest
on my list would be---
1. Carl Laemmle, Jr. I would want to bend his ear about producing the early Universal horrors and to let him know that he should step up production and grind them out faster. I would let him know that they are the cash cow that can keep the studio running and that without the horror films he and his father will lose the studio. 2. Bela Lugosi. I would invite him and tell him not to honor his contract to go to England and shoot the Mary Celeste movie and that instead he should appear in Dracula's Daughter and revive his career. I would also tell him to stay away from Monogram and hold out for playing Dracula in the 1940's Universal sequels including Wolf Man vs. Dracula. Besides, we know Bela would be the life of the party. 3. Jack Pierce. I'd just like to have met him. What an artist. Of course, having Pierce and Lugosi at the same table could also prove to be pretty interesting. |

I love this question. It's really fun to see everyone's answers!
And for dinner: Lon Chaney Jr., Boris Karloff, Vincent Price. And of course, Lon would be staying for dessert, too... |

I might want to change my choices to Evelyn Ankers, Louise Albritton and --- mmmmm --- Valerie Hobson? And then I would make sure I was well groomed and get
all three of them drunk. You can fill in the blanks from there.
Either that or what Tom said---it's been a while, but he's a HERO, dammit! |

Orson Welles was a great storyteller. I'd want him as a guest.

1. Val Lewton. An intellectual who actually thought about the genre, and in doing so made a body of work with
philosophical underpinnings. He must have been interesting.
2. Elsa Lanchester and Charles Laughton (they count as one couple). With Island of Lost Souls, Bride of Frankenstein, The Old Dark House, The Spiral Staircase, and Night of the Hunter, they were no strangers to genre classics. They were also erudite and English, and loved to laugh. 3. Vincent Price. Not only a great raconteur and wit, he could also cook the dinner. Interspersed between them, some great genre fans: 1. Sammy Davis, Jr. 2. Curtis Harrington 3. Whoopi Goldberg
