(03/03/08 5:50 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	Tags : None I'm usually dead tired after work on Saturdays, but this past weekend I managed to fall asleep on the living room couch about 8:00 and I got a nap in. I awoke fresh and alert for a horror movie around midnight. This is something I never do, and I decided to give it a try at this special hour which is traditionally suited for watching our favorite scary films. I chose NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968) which I haven't seen in a while. I have to tell you that I never enjoyed the movie as much as I did this night. I don't know whether it's this particular film itself or that 12:00 AM is a magical time for such horror movies all around. I was actually scared by NOTLD -- and it held up powerfully even though I'd seen it many times before. It was as if the whole world was quiet and I was the only guy still up. In fact, when the movie itself ended around 1:30 AM, I was friggin' SCARED TO GO TO BED! Horror movies NEVER affect me like this.. but it happened this time! I was hoping I wouldn't have nightmares. So -- now I've got this wild idea to try and designate a horror film for 12 midnight on EVERY Saturday night! Anyone else ever experience this? The sense of solitude that late at night can be profound and, as you said, ideally suited for a horror film. Whenever I find myself wide awake at that hour (which is all too rare) I like to put on an AIP/Poe film, certain Hammers, or maybe a Naschy film. -------------- "Doesn't thinkin' like that give ya nightmares?"

It probably had alot to do with how this movie initially affected me, since I first saw it at around midnight, many moons ago in the 70's. Another one that really kept me up was CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS. Try that one at midnight. For all it's campiness, it has a truly frightening ending. And don't forget TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. My whole life I've been playing jacks with a square ball.

I watched it in the early evening and was scared to go down a dark hallway afterwards. I don't watch really scary stuff late at night anymore because I no longer enjoy literally being scared all that much. I'd rather watch one of the old Universals or something at that time of night. Preferably on a rather windy evening. When I saw the movie in the theater it didn't scare me at all. The last shot of the film gains in impact when the two pieces are watched in conjunction. - Jeff

I saw all the Universals this way. Way cool to be watching a horror flic and look out the window and see the snow falling in the glow of the street light.

(03/07/08 7:45 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	There are many films I originally had to see at midnight and beyond: X The Man With X-Ray Eyes, Theater Of Blood, They Came From Within, Damnation Alley, etc. It was the only way to seem 'em locally, with no cable and before VCRs. I've also made it a point to keep a stack of movies I wanna see just in case I develop insomnia in the dead of night. I've recently seen Dolls, Dia De La Bestia and Rojo Sangre.

I absolutely consider Curse Of The Blair Witch part of the film, and absolutely integral to getting everything possible out of it. I don't know how I would have felt about Blair Witch if I only had the theatrical experience to go by. That part was well done, but I'd say 90% of the filmmaker's effort probably went into Curse, and the attention to detail in it is amazing.

The only criteria for me is that it be a B&W film. For whatever reason color films don't create the same magic at night. Cromwell
