Wow, Gary. Sounds good. I've enjoyed SHIP OF MONSTERS and AVENTURA AL CENTRO DE LA TIERRA without subtitles--this sounds like it might actually rival the former.

My favorite line from the Amazon description:

"...frees a damsel who had been kidnapped and after a spectacular persecution scene..."

I love spectacular persecution scenes. Always have.

I got 'em all beat. Check out La vuelta del Charro Negro (The Return of the Black Rider, 1941, Azteca Studios). It can best be descibed as a horror-western-comedy-musical and completely enjoyable. The Black Rider is a western hero akin to the Cisco Kid, who typifies the charro, or dandy cowboy. The villain is a mad scientist who has no problem killing his allies, let alone those who get in his way. He has an underground laboratory complete with the upright coffins...

Count me also as a TOMBSTONE CANYON fan, daylight and all. And a big fan of the horror western in general. I've found that surprisingly some of the best have been on TV. TOMBSTONE has an overall air of strangeness about it that makes it...well...strange.

I have that Retromedia Creepy Cowboys set for a few years and realized I've never seen RAWHIDE TERROR or WILD HORSE PHANTOM--so thanks for reminding me.

When I worked for Oldies.com, these "oaters" were among the biggest sellers. Honestly, every 30's DVD collection of cowboy movies they issued would cause the switchboard to light-up with orders. They were sold to older men, in many cases, shut-ins. Which just goes to show that there is a market for just about any film.

I love RIDERS OF THE WHISTLING SKULL, even though the Alpha disc I had was of decidedly crummy quality. It's not just one of the best horror Westerns, but one of the best B-Westerns, period.

In "Ghost Patrol", Col. Tim McCoy faces a gang that uses a ray gun that causes planes to crash. Later remade as "Sky Racket" with Herman Brix and "Sky Bandits" with Jim Newill as Renfrew of the Mounted.

Not a B-movie, of course, but the scenes set at a deserted train station at night in John Ford's SERGEANT RUTLEDGE have an old dark house quality to them. Rutledge himself appears suddenly, and only slightly more loquacious than Karloff's mute butler.

No kidding. My interest in any old B-Western goes up at least 50% if they have those giant 30s hats.
I always thought those were what they meant when they said "ten gallon" hats. I found one in a thrift store many, many years ago. It had been manufactured as part of the 1936 Dallas Texas Centennial Exposition at Fair Park in 1936. Although not in the best of shape, whenever appropriate, I've worn it proudly.
