Forry often made reference to "Larry Byrd's" Terror in the pages of early FM's.

Larry Byrd's Terror was one of the earliest "FM inspired" fanzines and premiered in 1961.

Amazing, Jeff, and I wish it were so. I think Rob Hancock may have met Forry at a convention (maybe, even, with Gary Svehla), but I can't be sure; I never did, although I recall sending letters to him. Maybe it's all an "urban legend" in my daft skull. One thing is certain, and for the most part, doesn't recant: dates and time.

FAMOUS MONSTERS #12 came out in 1961, cover right.

For those interested in viewing the various Tables of Contents for TERRORs 1-10, either individually or in a slideshow, I've added same to my Images listing. I thought I had done this, but didn't; the only previous way to see the TOCs was to click on the separate TERROR editions and then "open up" the TOC for that issue. Now it's easier, and the overlapping slidshow works nicely, too. Enjoy!

The summer of 1963 was the "coming out" season for TERROR, beginning with the premiere June edition, and Nos. 2 and 3 following respectively July and August. I asked Rob Hancock on board to co-write, and to be listed as such on the contents page, to which he eagerly ageed.

I don't have access to any of my early issues of FM as they are all CGC graded (YES - I'm one of those HATED individuals who seals all his magazines in 1" plastic slabs and places them into a "bomb proof" safe next to all the RARE Terror fanzines ) - but to answer Mel's question - I first read about Fanzines in the early issues of FM (circa 1962-1964). As TERROR #1 "sold out," I took Rob Hancock on board as co-writer; I remained editor. Together, early in July, '63, we put our heads together and began the collaborative TERROR #2.

The distribution of TERROR #1 had the usual hilarious encounters with mom and pop store owners, small businesses, banks, barber shops--- wherever I could walk. Unfortunately, there wasn't much luck in this; but I was able to leave enough copies around the village to suit me, and I didn't care about the money. It was the "publicity" that counted, and I was hoping that word of mouth might suffice. It did. Neighborhood kids knocked on my Pennywood Avenue...
