Hey Dhtreptow! I both agree and disagree with you regarding the color screen grabs.

I agree that the "normal" portrait of Dorian does indeed look my "natural" on the French dvd. However, I think the "degenerate" portrait appears more vibrant (and even a bit more detailed) on the U.S. version.

As far as the black and white sequences, it's a toss-up some of the grabs look better on the Region 1 (the title sequence as an example), while a...

Here's DVD Beaver's review for DORIAN GRAY. Very nice looking, looks like I will have to pick it up sooner rather than later. Some nice pics of Hurd Hatfield, too.... Oh, and Angela Lansbury and Donna Reed too!

They were all pretty good. The Verdict, Three Strangers, The Mask of Demetrios, Background to Danger and The Conspirators. That sounds like a great box set to me. While they are not the stars of the last two pictures they would help fill out a five film box.

Three Strangers is an odd little capture the moment slice of life kind of film that doesn't do much. But it is fascinating to watch it. The main cast, rounded out with Geraldine Fitzgerald, is great in this picture.

As far as WB's unreleased Lorre/Greenstreet pairings go, if they ever deign to offer THREE STRANGERS (1946) on R1 DVD, that would be good enough for me; it's the only one I really want, and would fit very nicely in one of their "film noir" sets.

Different sets. The Columbia set would contain The Face Behind the Mask and Island of Doomed Men. The Beast With Five Fingers was originally supposed to be part of a Horror Classics set from Warner. The Lorre/Greenstreet set is a wanted set featuring the mysteries the two co-starred in, e.g. The Mask...

I've seen a number of fans asking for such a set, but I've never heard of Warners ever claiming one was in the works.

I'm still waiting for word on the release of the Peter Lorre/Sidney Greenstreet set that was supposed to be in the works for 2008. The silence is deafening. And the info about that set being in the works was supposed to have come from the horse's mouth.

THE BEAST WITH FIVE FINGERS (Lorre)
GENIUS AT WORK (Lugosi, Atwill)

Tom, I gotta disagree with you - I think ZOMBIES ON BROADWAY is MUCH better than GENIUS AT WORK. It also puts Bela to much better use.

An HTF poster says The Picture of Dorian Gray is due October 7 with Angela Lansbury commentary and additional extras. Not sure if it's part of a set or a stand-alone release. We'll probably be getting an announcement soon regarding Beast With Five Fingers, The Walking Dead, etc. Anyone with news can post it here and I'll update this post with any and all Halloween titles.
