Since it opens Friday, (the 13th) I'll start the new thread now.

Saw it Thursday. I'm not gonna spoil it for anybody by writing about it now. I will only say, hopefully Mr Emmerich and Sony paid something to the estates of Phillip Wiley, Edwin Balmer, and maybe George Pal's.

I just saw this new movie today. It is based upon a short story by the great Richard Matheson entitled "Button, Button". The movie initially plays like a Twilight Zone episode but then comes a bit off the trackts and I think turns into oncoming traffic. I liked the 1st half better than the 2nd. It's well acted and Frank Langella is great but overall I'm not sure many will like this movie. I left the theater a bit disappointed - wanting more. I'm not sure so...

Just got back from the LA premiere (?) of Joe Dante's new pic THE HOLE. I don't want any of the plot away, but it's Dante's great blend of comedy and horror brought back again for a really quality production, supported by a talented cast (including Dick Miller and Bruce Dern) and some wonderful special effects. Watched it last night on an HDNet preview. Hearty recommendations from me. The films title pretty much tells you what to expect. An 80's setting with a 70's horror vibe. Just saw Rob Zombie's new feature-length animated film, released directly to DVD in September 2009. It is basically a comedy and a send-up of a lot of films, many of them horror and science fiction films (but by no means all--its referencing of films is near encyclopedic, from All About Eve to Cabaret). I thought it was very funny and liked it, but it is by no means for everyone. It makes casual and extensive reference to porn throughout. It was rated R by the MPAA, but...

Just got back from seeing this one. The movie is a blast. It has a smart script, terrific performances great pacing and some hilarious surprises. Maybe a little light on the horror for my preference, but contains enough gore to shock viewers unaccustomed to zombie movies. It's probably one of the best horror/comedies I've ever seen....certainly the best since Shaun of the Dead. Highly Recommended.
