... in the pantheon of "bad" b-grade movies? From the few reviews and opinions I read online (including a few threads here in which it's mentioned in passing), I expected the worst, most ridiculous thing ever put down on celluloid. But after a viewing Friday night that included three PBRs and some potato chips, I'd have to say it wasn't the worst, most ridiculous thing ever put down on celluloid.

I just picked up a DVD copy of DOGS (1976). I fondly remember this movie when I was younger. I believe the alternate title was SLAUGHTER but I believe that was the TV title.

I understand that this film failed terribly at the box office and yet I remember the film very affectionately since it was the 'Phantom' for a whole generation of kids who had never seen the 1943 version nor the Chaney silent version. As kids, we had all known there had been earlier versions from our "Famous Monsters of Film land" magazine but when this film came out we were just thrilled.

I know this has been dissected like Gil Perkins v. Eddie Parker in FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF-MAN. Just one question, albeit repetitive, I'm sure - is there available on region 1 anywhere the longer version of the film? Was there not a "Gently Johnny" song/dance in there somewhere (?) I don't find on any DVDs. Mine and all available in region 1 run about 86-88 minutes. These days, to quote Peggy Lee, is that all there is?

What's your opinion on this nugget? I loved it when it aired waaay back in '73,
and was totally unprepared for the ballroom scene.

Yeah, I know the girls in the room were ga-ga for Michael Sarrazin, and Jane Seymour
made a precious Prima, James Mason even more diabolical as Polidori than Thesiger's
Pretorius ... but, WHAT A FILM!!! This truly was great television. I dare rank it on a par
with PBS' "I, Claudius". It had that epic finality...

Hadn't seen this in years and we're watching it this week. An enjoyable Amicus. I really like Calvin Lockhart in this film. You can't go wrong with Cushing, Gambon, and Charles Gray either.

I saw this a couple times on late-night tv many years ago. I believe it was from the earlier 70's. Can't remember any of the actors, or the movie as a whole. I may actually have never seen the whole movie. The only scene I recall was near the end, where this man is chasing some woman through some building, I believe with intent to harm her. Couldn't find a thread, and wanted to write something after just finishing watching this one, in which the daughter of a disgraced doctor/scientist avenges his death by killing his detractors with help from a hypnotized stripper with long, lethal, poisonous fingernails. OK - I did the prerequisite search for a thread on this film but did not find one.

I began watching this one last night but only got about fifteen minutes into it before Mr. Sandman paid me a visit. So far it seems fairly typical of these films: gather a cross-section of American society together and then blow the world the hell up.

It's way too early for me to tell if the police officer is being the stereotypical 50s bossy cop or if he's just a class-A jerk.
