Well guys, did you buy any movies for Halloween. I finally picked up that 10 movie set from Universal of 1950's movies including "Mole People", Monolith Monsters, etc. I had most of those on VHS or AVI files but now I feel better having this set on DVD!! You can comment on any horror/sf movies you got recently from any yr time frame!!! - Tks - Dave

A subgenre that's become a real favorite of mine lately is the 1950's cliche of the film featuring a group of teenagers whose antics are interrupted by the appearance of a horrible monster of some sort, which they have to defeat after failing to get the local adults to listen to them. I'm thinking of things like Earth Vs. The Spider, The Giant Gila Monster, etc.

What are your favorites in this grouping?

Sometimes I wonder the what ifs of a film. Like, what if some tourist or other person had picked up a piece of the Monolith Monsters? What if the guinea pig or rat had escaped from the lab instead of Tarantula? What if Rodan had had chosen to save its own life?

anyone (other than me) sat through Frankenstein's Daughter? pure 50's teenage camp, similar to Teenage Frankenstein. Its in the so bad, its entertaining category. You know your in trouble when about a 10min musical segment is slotted at 1 hour into the movie. isnt filler scenes supposed to be before the story develops?

But what film from the era, 1951 through 1960, do you consider the film that really summed up the spirit of the era: the cold war paranoia, the crazy rebelliousness of youth, rock and roll, hot rods, flying saucers, giant insects, radioactivity, aliens...

Dunno if I'm repeating another thread, but I love both of these movies and was wondering which one you all preferred? I guess I am prejudiced by the fact that I saw Carpenter's version first, but Hawk's version is riveting.

The title speaks for itself. We probably watch these 50s films year round, but are there any films that you particulary enjoy watching around Halloween?

I often watch The Vampire and Tarantula this time of year. Blood sucking ghouls and spiders fit right in.

Although there are many references to this on other threads, I coudnt find one that discussed this film specifically. After hearing things about this film for years, I was finally able to watch it last night on DVD. I have to say that I was rather disappointed...I do like most of William Castle's other films but there just seemed to be something lacking about the whole plot, the rushed final explantion excluded.

The cast as a whole seemed just unlikable as characters, not very...

The Utah Educational Network has a podcast called UEN SciFi Friday. Each episode uses a SciFi/Horror film to frame an interview with a expert in an area related to the movies subject (Monster Zero deals with space flight, Megalon with Robots, EEGAHH with Cavemen). They use a lot of obscure movies. Great for budding Monster Kids or fans of any age.

Of the small hand full of 50's horror films that I have yet to view this one is at the top of my list. The writeup it gets in the first Psychotronic book makes it sound like and interesting horror/mystery comedy but unfortunately it seems to have disappeared completely. So much so in fact that not even bootlegs are available of it. So i wonder has anybody here seen this? and if you have is it worth the effort to seek out.
