My Turkey Day month theme for all my movie viewing (mentioned in a post deeply buried in the General Sci-Fi and Horror folder) took a weird turn for the truly explotive and more obscure cinema. I was not much impressed by REEFER MADNESS (I guess it is hilarious if one is stoned.), but Dwain Esper's NARCOTIC actually kind of floored me!

For anyone who prefers James Whale's odd jump cuts to ever closer close ups and other eccentricity,...

THIS TV, A movie channel normally seen on Broadcast TV Stations Digital Sub Stations is showing KING OF THE ZOMBIES. Since this channel shows only movies from the film library of MGM, I am guessing this will be a better looking print, albeit with commercials.

I wonder if anyone here has seen this. It's Invisible Ghost (1941), but it quickly deteriorates. Actors stare at each other, react to each other wordlessly, pause uncomfortably, then say a little unconnected dialogue. The camera pans around empty rooms, looking at furniture as the music swells. No---it's not the original---it's a radical digital edit. I like it a lot. It's as if the editor took out all of the plot and left in only that which creaks---my favorite...

As I work my way through October, watching at least one classic monster/horror/sci-fi movie each day, I took a step back (in quality) today for Lugosi's THE BOWERY AT MIDNIGHT. It is a fun little film with many of those poverty row "touches" we all love! Lugosi actually gets to do a little acting and he carries it off well. Can anyone tell me if Lugosi, in fact, played Professor Dearborn throughout the entire film and used his own voice for the role? IMDB claims he did, but I just find such a thing astonishing. While I didn't enjoy this film in general, the revelation at the end truly shocked me. If Bela really did all that...wow.

Here's one that's been bugging me for years. Who supplied the electrical devices in Poverty Row efforts like "Voodoo Man" & "Charlie Chan in the Secret Service"? I've seen the same gadgets in several Poverty Row films & they don't look like any of the ones made by Kenneth Strickfaden.

Allied Artists Facilities today

On a recent visit to California, my friend and I were planning to visit Allied Artists former facilities which was supposed to be open for tour. When I called, the staff representative said they were currently not hosting tours for "security reasons."

Anyway, that was strange to me, and also a big disappointment. Since the soundstages and lot were through several owners over the years, does anybody know the current status of the former Allied Artists studio...

I know that Vampyr is not a poverty row horror film but I thought I would post it here becuase I'm searching for information regarding the U.S. dubbed release titled Castle of Doom. Not sure if you could consider the noir "D.O.A." a "Poverty Row" title being released by Allied Artist in 1950 but some put it in that catagory.

I have the Roan version and it says on the back the transfer was from 35mm but I noticed on some scenes that it looked to have been spliced with 16mm. It also had a few damage spots while the rest looked pristine.

Are there any better version discs out there other than Roan?

Yes, I know why in the world would anyone like this film?

Simple
1. It's short and to the point, and concludes in 71 minutes, not too long to wear out its welcome.
2. If you're a fan of Bigfoot or Snowman movies (and of course the Gorilla genre), this one fits in as perfect match.
3. I like the monkey outfit, it's not spectacular, but it still looks pretty cool.
4. Barring the romance angle, I like the adventure angle a great deal.
