Does anyone have any info on the release date for the R1 DVD of A Study in Terror? I had read (somewhere on this board, I believe) that the release date was early November, but Amazon does not show a release date yet (odd if it really is this close). I thought I read somewhere on this page that the recent Double Film DVD's of THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES/PURSUIT TO ALGIERS, had commentaries on BOTH movies. Hound, with David Stuart Davies & Pursuit, with the late Richard Valley. Well, I purchased that very DVD set, but it only lists Davies as commentator for The Hound of the Baskervilles. Does anyone know if the Clive Brook Sherlock films have been released in any format? I believe there were two; The Return of Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes, both made (and set) in the early '30s.

Should have guessed that this would be in the pipeline since The Asylum seems to be on the ball when it comes to cashing in on the backs of blockbusters. Apparently their SHERLOCK HOLMES, which pits the detective against Spring Heeled Jack, is due out in January.

Scarlet Claw question

Just watched the MPI Scarlet Claw with a commentary by David Stuart Davies. At one point, in a tavern scene, Davies points out a thin, stooped barfly with a touque and an oatmeal complexion, and says something like "And here's Skelton Knaggs!" Later on, he cries out, "Skelton Knaggs again!" Well, one thing I know for sure is that mug sure as hell ain't no Skelton Knaggs. I don't think I've ever seen him before--does anybody know who he is?

Through a
fellow fan, I learned that THE STING OF DEATH, the 1955 "Elgin Hour" episode in which Boris Karloff plays Mr. Mycroft, will be released on DVD Oct. 20th as part of SHERLOCK HOLMES: THE ARCHIVE COLLECTION. Also included are films with Ellie Norwood and Arthur Wontner. I've seen the Karloff show and it's pretty good.

Anyone know why the Basil Rathbone/Nigel Bruce trailers to ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES/ THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES are not available? I have about 9 of the series but cant get these and a couple more out of the 14 in the series.

Didn't seem to see a thread on this. Has anyone seen Rathbone's appearance as Sherlock Holmes on the Suspense show epsiode, "The Case of the Black Baronet"?? This show seemed to have tons of stars guest starring on it. I caught the one with Lugosi in 'A Cask of Amontillado' and was happy with his performance even though it is basically super-economic live television.

This film, based on the character created by Conan Doyle, is on MGM HD's July schedule. Can't find too much commentary about it but the cast includes Eli Wallach as Napoleon, and Claudia Cardinale in featured roles. Sounds sort of 'Flashman-esque'? Don't think it's been released on DVD (at least R1).

I can understand three out of four as "stupid" movies with less plot emphasis, but Sherlock Holmes, one would expect some investment in the plot.

I didn't see a thread on this. Kino is releasing the Barrymore Holmes as part of a boxed set, and individually, on July 7. Three of the four Barrymore titles included in the set have been avaialble for a while, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Tempest and The Beloved Rogue, but Amazon is showing that the Holmes dvd is available for order separately.

I've never seen this and am looking forward to it!
